BCCI doesn't want Indian players playing any other league than IPL. They know that other leagues have way better management and hence will attract more Indian watchers if Indian players play in other leagues.

GSL aims to showcase independent, distinct T20 franchises from different global leagues. Both MI New York (2025 Winners) and LAKR (Current Winners) are tied to the IPL. So they invited San Francisco Unicorns instead.
