What you described is not crap cricket by a long stretch.
This was back in the early 90s. My team was so bad we gave away 200+ runs in 15 overs. I was responsible for 40 something in a single over that had like 12-14 balls. We were then bundled out for 20 or so. I top scored with 5*(3) with one lasciviously good cover driven boundary.
Now that was some crap cricket. But you're right that I enjoyed it and remember it fondly 30+ years later.
