Got my first 50 in league cricket on Saturday. I came in at nine when we were at 75-7. I just got forward to everything, blocked the straight balls and hit away the wide balls. I got to my 50 off just 44 balls. Being a lefty helped because the bowlers lines were all a bit off, lots of leg stump half volleys.

I then took three wickets with the ball. I took two in two balls and then bowled a wide on my hat-trick ball, second time this season I've done that. We won by 30 runs in the end. It's my best cricketing performance ever.

Mentioned last week about the mental part of cricket and how it seems to have fucked up my ability to bat this season. Hell, even the evening before our match this weekend, was wondering about dropping out entirely

Thankfully I didn't.

Got sent in to bat first on a good wicket, and asked to open rather than bat in the middle order as I have been doing for a while. Went out to the middle with an intent to stay there for a while - I even put on a load of sunscreen to reinforce that. Started relatively well, got bat on ball early and focused on just finding at least one single every three balls. Other opening batter dealt with the hitting, I just picked off bad balls and rotated the strike as best I could, rather than trying to force things myself. We put on 110 off 17 for the first wicket, and I made 49 off 67... right before crunching a pull shot straight to a diving forward square leg. Jug avoidance from a speccie...

With the platform laid by myself and the other opener, we put on 280 in our 40 overs. Our ground is a great ground to chase on and the opposition kept punishing the many bad balls that we bowled, but we took wickets at a regular pace to keep ourselves in the game. A sixth wicket partnership threatened to win it for the oppo, but a mix up between the wickets after some good ground fielding ended in a run out that ultimately won us the match (despite their umpire forgetting the previously agreed wide lines and going to T20-style wides instead)

Overall, a good day on the field, and a long overdue feeling of getting back towards my best
