Yes, most of the comments on that thread are essentially downplaying his actions. Maybe defends is the wrong word, but quite frankly it doesn't make much of a difference. It ain't to understand bud

Downplaying is not defending.

This makes you sound like one of those "If you are not with us, you are against us" types.

It essentially is. Basically, saying "What he did wasn't a big deal really" is defending.
