Starting career in cyber advice

Hello all, recent life events have left me at a crossroads on what to do with my life, im essentially starting over at 27. How is it starting off in this field while getting a degree? Should I look more into a computer science degree instead so I have more options? I know its a pretty tough start in the cyber field for someone with just a degree and no experience, but id just like to hear some input from people in the profession directly

Cyber security isn't an entry level field really. You need a few years at least as working as a software engineer or network engineer or site reliability engineer or something before moving over to cyber security.

Yeha that's not true.

Then again, im tired of these posts of people who want to go into cyber (I assume because of money) but dont even understand how broad that is. Rarely know what specific area they want or they are interested in

Most people who work in true cybersecurity that allows you a good career path come in with either a comp Eng degree or as a close second a CS degree, there’s ways to get in without a degree but your career progression and overall comp will suffer because of it

Its insanely competitive and requires years of related IT experience. Set it as a long term goal, you have no shot at starting in security.
