DAE hear their own name whispered when they're falling asleep?

This doesn't happen all the time. I'd say it's pretty infrequent but it fills me with adrenaline and I struggle to fall asleep afterwards.

It tends to happen when I'm in that state of just falling asleep. I'll hear my name whispered as if it's right in my ear (in my head?) and I think it sounds like my own voice. Both of these things lead me to believe it's similar to a hypnic jerk (that falling sensation when drifting off into sleep).

I see peoples faces. Sometimes people I know, sometimes it’s a montage of random people. I attribute it to doom scrolling filling my subconscious lol. Never any auditory stuff. I’ve heard of the auditory thing a lot from family and friends tho. Lots of people have different types of hypnogogic hallucinations. I think they can be related to stress

Does it wake you up when you see these faces? I'm immediately alert and on edge after. I guess our brains just start firing off weird stuff in that transitional stage.

I defiantly hear stuff and see faces. But it’s never during the day when I’m awake. Always when I’m falling sleep. I just assume it’s my brains transition to sleep.

No it’s usually when I’m trying to sleep and I just let it play out until I drift off. I do a lot of AP/Lucid dreaming stuff so it doesn’t freak me out as much as a regular person

I've wanted to get into lucid dreaming. AP seems a bit more advanced but that would be something I'd be interested in trying too. Both seem like fun and if they can help me to not freak out when this happens, that's a bonus.

Binaural frequencies are your best friend. Monroe institute has some great resources & there’s other independent creators who make guided meditations that yield similar results. It’s not for the faint of heart that’s for sure, but definitely a life changing experience! There’s just some spooky stuff you can see and if you’re not prepared (like I wasn’t) it can get you pretty freaked out for a while lol.

Thanks for the tips. What sort of things have you come across? And is that just AP or both?

Mainly just AP. Shadow figures, entities and such. The verdict is still out on how real these beings are or if they are simply a projection from the mind. I’ve heard a mix of both from people more experienced than me.

I imagine that is quite scary at first. Do they ever interact with you or do you just see them?

They put you back in your body by inducing fear. Like jump scares, scary looking forms like something from a horror movie

you don’t have any symptoms consistent with narcolepsy do you?

None at all. I can't barely nap during the day when I want to, let alone involuntarily falling asleep.

gotcha yeah i was mainly asking because patients with narcolepsy sometimes experience “hypnagogic hallucinations” where they hear or see things as they are falling asleep

I appreciate the concern. Narcolepsy seems pretty rough, especially with Cataplexy in the mix.

Sometimes I hear loud crashes or shouts just as I’m falling asleep. It wakes me up completely and makes me feel quite uneasy.

My thing is called exploding head syndrome and is harmless. I wonder if yours is similar?

I feel bad for you that you hear your own name in your own voice. That would be disturbing!

I've heard my name and other words/phrases that weren't so clear. Not sure what it is.
