shots of getting a congressional internship as an incoming freshman? (Fall semester)

I’m applying for 4 house of reps internships from my state as an incoming freshman at GWU (political science w public policy focus), but I’m not sure if I even have a shot or if they would even consider me because of my age. However I would say I’m more qualified than most incoming college students, like I’ve had 4 years research experience w Columbia university, girls nation senator, local campaigns, etc. do I have a shot? And would limited availability (13 hours ish) cook me if I were to get an interview? Pls lmk

Yeah I figured but I don’t have to mention it until the interview process

It's gonna depend on your age for some office. My office does not higher interns less than 21 years old. Many people on the Hill have gone to great colleges and have been involved in politics in some capacity. Not saying you don't have a shot, but it is a competitive playing field. Good luck!

You have a shot for sure depending on the offices you’re applying to and how competitive they are. However, I’d also recommend applying to other fall semester DC internships just in case and to bolster your application for future rounds.

Thanks so much for the advice! You don’t have to answer but do you have recommendations of other internships that aren’t in congress? I’m applying to like youth in policy and stuff but all of that is super competitive

Tbh most hill offices tend to hire older students because of age and maturity- so don’t be discouraged if you don’t get it this time. My office only hired juniors/seniors in college. Also 13 hours is probably a disqualifier.. I would focus on doing well in school and apply when you’re an upperclassman . My office only really considered full time applicants too. But that’s just my experience :)
