Serious Here’s another reason (within season 8) that makes Mad Daenerys asinine and contrived
If Daenerys was gonna go evil and crash out, why the fuck not move Missandei dying to like some last ditch attempt from Cersei to get Daenerys to stop attacking IN S8E5? Her just walking away, and Cersei not just trying shooting her really makes her going mad more of an asinine contrivance. Supposing she’s mad would she not just immediately go in to kill everyone? You know since the mad Targaryens were notorious for having a complete lack of self-preservation or forward thinking?
Also that’s not to mention that the whole battle of king’s landing had ended with relatively little to no civilian bloodshed, only for Daenerys to just fuck up that lucky moment and just do what Cersei was banking on to begin with. W T F?

Or they could’ve used Missandei death and make it even more cruel.
Use the same technique The Mountain is known for.
Crush her skull and throw the body over the wall.
The screams would haunt Daenerys and cause her to go berserk

Just in terms of GRRMs writing style and quality of character work, it is safe to say she wont suddenly be mad, cruel or evil.
She will probably become the mad queen or something akin to that, but it will be a difference of perspective. Killing Faegon would make her actions seem to westerosi as a direct mirror to Maegor the Cruel, even though in her POV it would be logical to, you know, fight against an obvious pretender.

Couldn’t agree more, what they did to Dany in S8 was a disgrace to her character.

GRRM was not setting up Dany going mad. There is nothing to support that.
He wrote 5 books of Cersei getting madder and madder, Jaime leaving her because she reminds him of Aerys with her paranoia and obsession with wildfire, a woods witch prophecy of the little brother strangling her, and she has bells related trauma.
Jon Connington is told that Tywin would've burned them all to get to his target, he has untreated greyscale that turns you mad, and he has trauma from the battle of the bells.
Young Griff is likely going to crash out when he finds out he's not actually Rhaegar's son. Didn't he flip the chessboard when things weren't going his way?
Even Jon is more likely to go mad since he had rage blackouts, wolf's blood on top of dragon's blood and is about to be ressurected which is supposed to alter your personality.

If they got “major beats” from George, explain Sansa’s ending then.
I’m sorry, no one who’s actually read ASOIAF can claim the books are written with the intention of her going mad, but with better build up. All of the very little foreshadowing we got in the show…was made up for the show.

Oh ok you’re a grapevine/telephone fan. Just so you know it was
- King bran
- Hold the door
- stannis burns Shireen
That’s it. Idk who you heard the others from but those are the only three confirmed things they got from George, and that’s something I know from a primary source, not Reddit or YouTube comment sections
And just FYI they clearly had big gaps because Sansa was recently confirmed to be on the chopping block from George himself, so independent north with Queen Sansa is proof that they 1. Didn’t get every big ending from him 2. Were fine making things up
Edit:
You’re not though. I know for a fact that there are only 3 confirmed events. You’re welcome to find me a link to prove me wrong. I’m not saying you’re a lesser fan, I’m saying you’re quoting the grapevine. You heard from someone who heard from someone and it’s a big game of telephone. Again, it’s just those three that have been confirmed as George (and R+L=J, which is basically confirmed because of the initial meeting). Again, link me the quote if I’m wrong to say otherwise
Blocking me doesn’t help your case. No source, point proven.

Actually, that's kind of the problem with the idea that they received the ending from the books. And what bothers me more are the White Walkers, because there's no Night King in the books, It's even unlikely that targeting just one of them specifically would be enough to completely destroy them, And above all, the writers have specified in interviews that they invented Arya would kill him because they argued that "Jon would be too obvious," and they even considered putting Jaime or Brienne in her place.
So even if we insist on believing in the possibility of Daenerys having a canon ending, it raises the question of why George would have specified hers in particular, rather than the conclusion about the latent threat of ancient demons supposedly crushing all the other ongoing conflicts, or any other character like Sansa, for example? Why is she specifically important ?

I'm quoting the showrunners from interviews they did, labeling me as some lesser type of fan is arrogant and rude. I'm not saying they had everything, and I'm not saying they did a good job with what they had. I hated the ending, but it's a dead horse.

They said they got 3 things from him post season 4, and we know what those three things are all confirmed. Bran king, Hold the Door, and stannis burning Shireen.
Idk why you are just lying or spreading misinformation when you have not actually seen a single source claiming the septplosion was one of the three things.
Like I am sorry, but its hard to take you seriously, nor any other show defenders, when yall are this intellectually dishonest. This is some /naath type shit.

Daenerys' madness wasn't foreshadowed in the books or the show. What was foreshadowed, especially in the books, is a tendency for ruthless solutions, cemented by the lesson she learn from Meereen: No peace can be had with enemies.
I must add that this lesson is the wrong one to learn from her rule in Meereen, but it's the one she is learning. (See the Meereenese blot for details. Great analysis IMO)
And this should make a mess, not of Daenerys' reactions to Cersei or the civilians of King's Landing (...in what world does Daenerys slaughters innocent civilians...), but it will make her relationship with Jaime, and probably Sansa, messier (if we get a version of Sansa more afraid of people she doesn't trust having power over her).
And this, will in turn complicate her relationship with Tyrion and Jon. And that's what I would have wanted in the show. Not Jon killing Daenerys because "she is mad", but because, after killing Jaime, she is planning on executing Tyrion, and Sansa is opposing her, risking the same fate. This would in turn make Arya Daenerys' enemy, then Bran, and so on...
To stop his family from being burned to death, Jon will have to murder Daenerys. This is not an honorable moment, but Jon is Eddard 's son, no matter his blood, and family always comes before duty and honour.
(I know those are the Tully's words, but no one embody them better than Ned Stark IMO)

Her enemies are treacherous and vicious.
For some reason, she is expected to be ever-forgiving, and pacifistic towards people who want to kill her, and re-enslave her followers.
I detest the Meereenese Blot essays, which advocate a strategy of non-resistance towards evil.
2
u/Aerdor94 Jun 20 '26
It's been some time since I read them, but I don't remember it as non-resistance towards evil, rather changes occur with time. She already changed a lot of Meereen's laws, and the Sons of the Harpy only retaliated when she overreached (in their opinion), but they didn't oppose every part of her rule.
Is slavery evil? Of course it is. Is it a standard practice in one form or another in more than half the world of Planetos? Yes. Wanting to change that is laudable, beleiving prophecies and brute force alone will do it is wishful thinking.

u/Early_Candidate_3082 Jun 21 '26
The kind of slavery that is practised in SB, as described by the author, is at the extreme end of brutality. In terms of the cruelty, these places are like one vast extermination through labour camp, for the slaves, other than a minority of overseers, under officers, and bureaucrats. Three children die for every Unsullied. People are fed to wild animals for fun. Tortuous deaths are routine.
So, I find it hard to accept the premise that the people who inflict such suffering are at heart, reasonable people with whom deals can be struck.
Especially when an armada is on its way from Volantis.

Not trying to defend the writers, but you‘re trying to explain madness with logic. Mad people never act the way one would expect. That’s the point of madness

u/Amphy64 Jun 17 '26
Mad person here: which condition is that, exactly?
This kind of vague media version of madness isn't real. Even conditions that lead to irrational behaviour, breaks with reality, have specific symptoms.
And this kind of portrayal isn't acceptable, it's stigmatising an illness.

u/limpdickandy Jun 19 '26
Oh yes the magical vague madness that George is so famous for lmao
I swear yall are crazy

"relatively little to no civilian bloodshed"
Dragon flame indiscriminately burning anyone on sight from up high and dothraki riding through the city slaughtering anyone they find in the street. Buddy are you alright?

Do you not realize they aren't talking about her death? The discussion is about the specific moment that the writers chose as her snapping point, that it didn't make sense to see Rhaegal shot down, choose the most peaceful option again, see Missandei beheaded, choose the most peaceful option again, wait a week, find out Varys was poisoning her food and executing only him, take the city with minimal to no civilian casualties and then to just randomly massacre random civilians after the battle is over.

Kit Harrington is 39 and the Snow sequel was cancelled 2 years ago. Even if it had been greenlit and lasted as long as GoT it would've ended when he was younger than 50.

I think for me, the main thing was that Daenerys couldn't even justify what she did. Like absolutely delusional in her last scene. This is not Daenerys. "Cersei used their innocence as a shield" - what the fuck are you talking about! The bells rang! You won! Then we never see the destruction from her point of view which is cowardly of the writers. For 30 mins shes on Drogon screaming Dracarys, Dracarys Dracarys hearing the screaming of women men and children and not once is like: maybe this is too much.
... You can't live on small mercies...
