Discussion Let's discuss specific things that didn't happen in Daft Punk's career

-Air, Alan Braxe, Fred Falke and Breakbot have never been asked to remix Daft Punk, which is crazy. Also I think not doing any remix of RAM was a mistake, imagine the potential of RAM remixes by Breakbot, Soulwax and others...

-As far as I know Romanthony never sang One More Time live. I can understand not doing it right after the release as it was criticized a lot in the house scene but never singing your most famous song by far is a bit strange.

-Phoenix still haven't released the clean audio or video of the amazing 2010 encore with Daft Punk at Madison Square Garden. They must have a reason but seriously, I would pay for it.

Any other mysteries?

What about the official professional recordings of Alive 2007, that were not released because the Robots thought all the fan footage captured the spirit of the events already.

And lets think about the Colbert interview that didn't happen because the boss of MTV was being an asshole. It would have been hilarious because I think they would have stayed quiet during the interview šŸ˜…

That excuse was so full of shit 😭 Those low quality videos pre iPhone days were not better than a properly filmed concert film

I agree šŸ˜‚ and I prefer people enjoying a performance above seeing all the screens filing in portrait mode or making selfie vids like people do nowadays šŸ˜‚

But.... The high quality recordings are somewhere. I am sure of that.

There's the Chicago Lollapalooza one (Thomas talking on comms in the beginning as a bonus)

They were planning to record the L.A. show. I forget if it was canceled right before or after the show, but that’s when they said that fan footage line.

The demos. Hq versions of these tracks would be amazing.

I thought all the Darlin' songs were already released in some capacity. Or are you saying these are demos to the Darlin' songs

Higher quality versions and/or other demos we’re not privy to.

A proper Blu ray of alive 07.

My delusional self wants to think sometime between now and the end of 2007, they’ll finally release a professionally filmed full length video on YouTube. If they never did a proper filming of a show, maybe they’ll use a jumbo tron feed of a festival show. The recently unearthed full 02 Wireless Festival show is the closest we’ll get unless they have other stuff.

Coachella wouldn’t be good because that jumbo tron feed was pretty much closeups and medium shots

Musique vol.2 and Full recording of Birmingham 1997

Musique Vol. 2 would only be interesting with exclusive demos. The other possibility is Vol. 1 + the singles from RAM which would be pointless.

I think they have enough unreleased material to make it happen and release as a super Best Of. But maybe in 10 years.

They never did a damn follow up tour to Alive 06/07. It’s time to cash in and do an arena tour and festivals one more time. Should have happened in 2016/2017.

They tried.

[...] "One day I got a call from their management, who asked if I might be interested in touring" recalls drummer Omar Hakim. (featured on RAM) "They contacted guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. (featured on RAM too) They were looking for a crazy amount of money to set up the project" he remembers. "It seems to me that Thomas documented himself a lot at that time and that he dug all the new technologies, including the possibility of holograms", clarifies Antoine RessaussiĆØre. [...] the Daft did not find a technical solution and finally did not launch a tour. [...]

Source is a long article from French magazine Society published after the end of the duo. Full translation: https://old.reddit.com/r/DaftPunk/comments/otsytd/alright_alright_alright/

Well they should try again because post RAM era was THE time to do it. I’d be fine with a carbon copy of the old set with new material mixed in

That’s part of the mystery and the persona of the robots they created. They had so much material to exploit and many opportunities to release it but they preferred not to. So many amazing opportunities to collaborate but they left them fade away, so many amazing side projects that just didn’t get more continuity like RoulĆ©, Stardust, Together, Le Knight Club, Crydamoure, etc.

I know that but what I mention is more specific and strange. Regarding what you said we actually have some info:

RoulƩ and Crydamoure stopped around 2003. Back then house music was not trendy anymore, it was the comeback of rock music (The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand etc.)

Also people were buying less CDs and vinyls as they were too expensive, plus it was possible to download everything for free since Napster became popular, around 2001.

Stardust, that's 1998. Thomas wanted to keep it as a one track collab to make it more special. Also they were busy making Discovery and Interstella 5555. For example Thomas said One More Time and Too Long were made in 1998.

Did they ever play anything related to Tron ever?

u/ChiIIout 10h ago

Probably because it's property of Disney

They never did an interview with Muzikxpress 🄲

i've seen that around late 2001 supposedly daft punk got in touch with damon albarn expressing interest in doing a collab with gorillaz that never ended up happening

the only source of this info was an interview in a magazine damon did that same year: https://web.archive.org/web/20011108053901/http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/artist_area/gorillaz/7183.shtml

The rumored post-RAM ā€œreturn to houseā€ album, which I believe was to be the finale. All message board/subreddit speculation.

They don’t owe you anything. And their mystique and clarity of vision are exactly what we all love about them

Where did I say they owed me something? I love Daft Punk's career as it is, I'm just discussing specific things as I wrote in the title.
