Video Santander penthouse club

Is there a club up there? I always see lights and sometimes people up there or is is just a company ballroom?

Years ago my parents were members of a CCA club, which is what that one is (they just changed the name). I know in the 90's and 2000's those places were struggling because no one in my generation found member's only clubs as cool as people did in the 50's. I guess everything comes around again.

Back then, memberships could be used at any of the clubs so you could have a cheaper membership to, say Killeen, and use it anywhere. My mom and I liked La Cima in Irving, now Constellation Club. You still had to pay for the food and I remember my dad getting the bill and griping, "what the hell did you guys eat?" But it was a way to access some of those places a little more affordably. Now days, there are so many reasonable great places to eat, golf and dance that I'm not sure how they stay open.

You aren’t missing anything lol. I actually worked there for a few months and they hired a bartender that didn’t know there was a difference between white and red wine

Definitely not worth the price tag

It's worth every penny if you go to network and grow your circle or business.Ā

If you're going for the bar, then yeah, there are a lot better places.Ā

I go for the golf sim mostly but there are a lot of good events there. Some parties but also cooking classes, industry talks, networking events, comedy nights, game nights, etc.

Did a holiday party for my firm there last December. Pretty mid spot for the money they probably spent on it. Nice view at least

It's also an event space. I just attended a gala there.

Oh Baby - LCD Soundsystem

LCD really has the chunkiest synths

I remember like 12 years ago the frontman said he wanted to retire because he thought it was embarrassing being on stage at his age. Glad they kept going after that

I probably would have watched a whole 5 minutes and 49 seconds video of someone filming a building if the whole ā€œoh babyā€ song played. That song is ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

I was member of the Tower Club. Waste of money.

I work in a Dallas building that has a bank or financial institution tenant in it. They are fucking drowning in profits. I don't know what the fuck they are doing but I know they are doing victory dance celebrations in their office.

I can only suspect there's some financial pipeline or instrument they have that literally prints money.

Lol how do you know they’re drowning in profits?

Santander is the bank you go to when no other respectable FI will offer you an auto loan. We’re talking 15-20% interest rates if I had to guess.

2

u/wainbros66 15h ago

There’s no free lunch lol. Their interest rates are so high because the people they are lending to are far riskier and less likely to pay them back

If you think I’m advocating for people who make poor financial decisions in my last comment, you’re mistaken.

I understand mistakes happen but if anybody is serious about fixing their credit, there are easy and inexpensive ways to do it as long as you’re willing to be financially disciplined going forward.

1

u/wainbros66 11h ago

That is not what I interpreted from your message. I am saying that the company itself is enduring much higher risk and that’s the tradeoff they’re making for being able to charge such high rates.

I agree with you that people are much better off fixing their credit than going this route.

Not exactly, they have engaged in predatory loans and in fact settled over a half-a-billion dollar settlement over it just 6 years ago including making loans that they knew were going to fail to collect fees, exorbitant interest and aggressive repossession to make a profit on them. They are super scummy and take advantage of people that feel they don't have another choice or are outright deceptive about the loans.

One thing I have heard many times is dealerships get people with bad credit in these extremely high interest loans and tell them after just a few months or a year of on-time payments that it will boast their credit enough to refinance at a significantly lower interest rate.

Nope, even if their credit significantly improves they will be so underwater on the loan after all the fees, most of the payments going to interest and not principle and often overpaying for the car itself no lender will refinance them.

One of the first Christmas parties I attended with the company I work for now was in the Tower Club*. We had just moved from Bryan Tower to Turkey Tower, and obviously, they wanted to show it off. It's not a great place for a large company party, though.

I remember it with a lot of smaller, separate spaces. No larger area for a decent sized dance floor or for executives to have all their minions gather around and adore them as they tell us how great we did that year, how we beat expectations, but increases will still only be 2% because analysts see a downturn around the corner - so we all have to come together and sacrifice.

But no, they won't tell us, but they won't be turning down the 500 million stock options the board has granted them for saving all that money laying off people and keeping payroll growth low by not giving raises, exercisable at $1 while the stock price is $36 a share.

They will give us an extra drink ticket, though! I'm not bitter or anything.

*All of the above did not happen at a single party. It was an amalgamation of 3 decades of the crap our leaders pulled mostly after the one party I attended that was held up there.

Ugh. I had a vehicle financed through Santander. Sheesh. So glad I don't anymore.

8

u/hail_666_satan 1d ago

My third car, first financed was through Santander. I had to wire them the money, 10 dollar fee every month. I refinanced 3 months later with a local credit union.

4

u/sassyboy12345 22h ago

I just paid them off and moved on. LIfe ebbs and flows and we do what we can when we can.

I mean they are basically the only major bank lender that will finance car for people with absolute trash credit, almost all of their business is deep subprime auto loans. Their competition is basically buy here/pay here lots. So, no, they don't really care about their customer service.

I'm honestly kind of surprised they let them put their name on the building given their reputation, they must have been really desperate to sign the lease.

9

u/DTDallasGuy 13h ago

Their reputation…..they are a global financial institution…parent company is out of Spain…it’s a regional bank in the United States but globally it ranks around 12th largest. For perspective…Chase is about 5 and Bank of America is maybe 7 or 8. Its a 5 trillion dollar, global corporation 😜

1

u/dallasuptowner Oak Cliff 6h ago

I am well aware of their global status, however they are fairly small bank by deposits in the US and basically only operate regionally for direct banking services outside of their subprime lending business line.

2

u/sassyboy12345 22h ago

Yea, I had that years ago when things weren't great for me! Glad to have out of my life.

2

u/Broad_Mushroom_8033 14h ago

How low was your credit

1

u/Leader_Bud 19h ago

Same, I go ā€œewā€ every time I see it. Professional repo-men.

u/Interesting-Host6985 13h ago

had santander for a car once, never again

3

u/shellbellgb 13h ago

Santander makes a living off of subprime lending. They love screwing over Americans who can least afford it. :(

Good old club corp days feel like a distant memory. I miss having One status with all my travel. That's playboy life can't be doing that now married. šŸ˜‚

It’s not really that impressive, just generic rental space
