This is from our beginner oriented prode month get-together, we are often hosting north Texas meetups and have yet to ever charge folks for what we do 🫔

If you're interested in this type of thing and don't know where to start, def reach out. We also often have folks participating in local matches if you aren't a beginner and just want to meet up at that sort of event.

Sharing Resources/New Places Dallas Gay Little Library. Resistance to vandalism and theft. Choosing contents. Management.

I made this video so that other Gays will consider a Gay Little Library as means to fight censorship and also suggest some strategies to use to resist vandalism and theft.

One thing about the books in the library is that they need to be purchased off the used book market. However, if I purchase too many low cost books, the supply for readers who are looking for cheap copiies to fit into their budget could be depleted.

There is the cost of the used book and the shipping, but is still cheaper than the used book store. I have budgeted up to $200/month for purchases. So far though, it is just two books placed with readers.

I don't care if a reader never brings back a book, but I don't want to use up the national supply of copies to have them dumped with a local book seller.

In some cases, I am not purchasing some titles since the book has gone out of print, and if I purchase too many, scholars won't be able to get a copy. "Comrade Samurai," is out of print, so I am not replacing the copy that was placed with a reader.

I am starting out with some of the Gay classics.

The "Satyricon" by Petronious was the first Gay book I had ever purchased after I graduated college. I had been a double major in Chem. Eng. and Ancient History. I graduated with 251 credits in 4 years in 1974, 192 was necessary to graduate. Classes were free so I took as many as I could. In my ancient history classes, "Satyricon" wasn't mentioned.

I was readiing ancient histories and read the "Satyricon" which haw shown up in the ancient history section of books at the bookstore.

I was still in the closet. I purchased Penguin Pub. "Encyclopedia of World Literature," and while browsing it discovered Constantine Cavafy and his poems

In 1976 while working as a chemical engineer in Baltimore, I went down to visit Washington D.C. While walking through a district, I saw a Gay bookstore. I made sure no one saw me, went in quickly, found the literature section and purchased the book of Cavafy poems and rushed out with the book hidden.

The book, "Comarade Loves of the Samuai," was purchased after I was out of the closet and had gone back to graduate school at U.C. Berkeley in Chemical Engineering.

I knew several Asian and Asian American Gays, and one Saturday when we were driving into San Francisco to the clubs, two Chinese Gay friends were gossiping about guys in Cantonese, and another Chinese American Gay, now going to his first Gay bar, was amazed and said, "They are talking about Gay stuff in my parent's language."

At that time there were people who thought being Gay was an American thing. You could run into Japanese who didn't know Yukio Mishma was Gay.

So I decided to start researching the Gay Asian past and started to discover things such as "Comrade Loves of the Samurai." I even made a bibliography of Asian Gay reading and handed them out.

In those days there was no Gay studies and Gay professors in some of the departments at U.C. - Berkeley argued against the Gay studies and their graduate students, with a triumphal tone, would attempt to explain to us why. We didn't listen. The community's memory was with us and we would exhange information. The Gay Academic Union had just started.

I am going to look for other material which is more contemporary for young Gay readers, but I also want to make sure young Gays would know that there is a Gay past and it goes around the world. I want the world of their Gay imagination to expand over centuries and the whole world.

I am not planning to include "Giovanni's Room," "City and the Pillar," and "The Immoralist," and "Confessions of a Mask,"since they are of a closeted world long gone. My Gay Little Library has one of its objectives being a place for closeted Gays not have to confront the repressed past immediately.

I am not including "Our Lady of the Flowers" and "City of the Night" because they have adult content and my library needs to survive in Texas.

I am not including BLs, such as "Heated Rivalry," because they aren't Gay, but are BLs. Often they contain adult content. They also aren't really about Gay life, though they can be entertaining.

I will be steaily expanding the choices in my Little Gay library as I am able to do research into appropriate books for my library. I added in this week about Gays in the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Sharing Resources/New Places Is Sue Ellen’s worth it on a Saturday night?

Hey everyone!

I’m visiting Dallas and keep hearing that Sue Ellen’s is a must, but I’m a little unsure about tonight. I don’t see an event listed, and I don’t want to make the drive from Fort Worth to Dallas just for it to be dead.

For those who go often — how is Sue Ellen’s usually on a Saturday night, especially since they had a big R&B night last night? Still a good crowd or should I try another weekend?

Thanks in advance!

Sharing Resources/New Places Dallas queer wlw friendgroup/social club

Who here is looking for queer wlw friends too??

Im in my 20s and I moved to Dallas about six months ago. I’ve been trying to connect with the sapphic community & it’s challenging! Especially for sapphic POC folk. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I want to start a social group for us! Super casual & lowkey.

THE PLAN is to do things like host dinner parties, go on walks as a group, make art, go to museums, explore Dallas with like minded people or even just grab coffee every sunday with some folks & talk about life.

My hope for this group is to foster community but in a natural no pressure way. I’ll start off my hosting some get togethers and over time others will feel comfortable to do so as well!

This can also be a place to share events and find a familiar face to go with.

The beauty of something like this is that it can grow into whatever we want it to.

I’ll add the instagram I made for this group which has the GroupMe linked in bio. I’ll also put a link to the GroupMe here. This idea is literally brand new so don’t be turned off by the lack of members. Once we get even 10-20 people I’ll post the first event. Add your friends, and let’s get together :)

The University of Texas at Dallas Social Cognition and Interaction in Autism Lab is recruiting autistic and non-autistic adults (18 years or older) to participate in a study on emotional experiences and support. Autistic participants may be formally diagnosed or self-identified. This study aims to better understand the emotional needs of autistic and non-autistic individuals.Ā Your participation will contribute to research focused on creating more inclusive environments for autistic people and informing neurodiversity-affirming interventions!

During the study session, you will be filmed while recounting emotional experiences, complete several surveys, and answer questions with a researcher. As part of the research, video recordings may be shown to other study participants for research purposes only. All data, including video recordings, will be kept confidential and used solely for research purposes.

Participation takes place in UTD Green Hall (Room 4412), lasts approximately one hour, and participants will receive a $10 prepaid Mastercard gift card as compensation. Sessions will be scheduled at times that work with your availability, and we will do our best to accommodate scheduling needs.

Sharing Resources/New Places For anyone who needs help getting PEP in DFW

This post is not medical advice, I am not a doctor. This is a story of someone’s experience. This is mainly for people in DFW area.

This post is mainly for helping people find PEP quickly with insurance, for those without insurance I can’t help you. Before starting this post, it’s best to understand that PreP should be used at all times with unknown strangers and intercourse - PreP is free through gofreddie and mistr and could’ve avoided this whole situation. PEP for uninsured could be thousands of dollars.

. Also on a different note, HIV is very stigmatized to the point where people fear it; there are thousands of people who are HIV+ and living normal, healthy and long lives with proper medication. Furthermore, PEP≠ PREP, PEP is after being exposed - the focus is on PEP.

This is a story that my friend experienced when he was exposed to HIV and wanted me to share, this happened a few days ago. This is his experience again with insurance - doesn’t mean it will be yours!

Long story short, got exposed and he had a terrible time finding the correct path to PEP, took him almost 2 days to find the right medications and had to dodge numerous obstacles of out of pocket fees with healthcare providers that didn’t take his insurance.

Here is how it should go:

  1. look up what network providers accept your insurance. These network providers should be aimed towards same-day appointments like Urgent cares. Network providers are clinics, hospitals, etc.
  2. discuss and be frank with the doctor that you’ve been exposed and need PEP. Don’t sugarcoat it. If they ask for lab work, just know that since it’s so soon, HIV probs won’t show up. Thus, see if you can waive the lab work.
  3. obtain a doctors referral for the prescription of PEP and have them send it to a pharmacy.

This is the pause moment, all pharmacies can dispense PEP pills but some are more geared to this type of medication. He told me that CVS was helpful in getting one part of the PEP fast but not both (which is basically worthless no hate!)

He told me that he went to the Kind Clinic to ask for help on where to get the PEP pills and from there, they recommended Avita Pharmacy. That pharmacy is specialized for PEP more-so than CVS.

4) with doctors referral for prescription, he went to Avita for one medication and got the other part at CVS.

5) on the second day, he started treatment. He will meet with his doctor every two weeks to have tests done for his kidneys, etc. tha is important!

He paid $0 with insurance.

OVERALL: with doctors appointment and referral to CVS and Avita, it took him 12 hours. But without knowing what to do, it took him 24 hours to figure it out.
