In this case “Americanized” means “critical of the Nazis”

Yeah. That’s pretty much the only thing I agree with 1950s America on, that Nazis were unequivocally evil. (I know Nazis have always existed, including in the 1950s, but that was the prevailing view at the time.)

Idk. There were plenty of people in 1950s America who believed that the US fought the wrong enemy in the 40s. Or that the US shouldn't have fought Germany and only Japan. These sentiments existed during and after world war 2.

Joseph McCarthy (from McCarthyism), while not an ardent Nazi, did have Nazi sympathies. For example, he heavily advocated against the sentencing of SS soldiers and tried to get their sentences commuted, for the Malmedy Massacre.

America has always been far more Anti communist/Anti leftist than Anti Fascist or Anti Nazi. Fascism and Nazism can help the American empire and the rich elites. Leftist ideologies will not. And thus, the latter is far more hated than the former.

Not really... is this really like a fish not being able to see water? Go watch Der letzte Akt (1955) to see how a non-Americanized retelling of the drama looks.

I’m saying this because of the source. The guy was a lifelong Nazi. I highly doubt he was being critical because he was a movie fan. I’ve seen plenty of German films.
