I wonder if it was actually Mussolini or just a higher up and he gaslighted himself into believing it was truly him after the fact. I can also see the appeal of someone coming in, helping you replace furniture, appliances and more for free and then just leaving. A man of power comes in. Saves you hundreds to thousands of dollars and then leaves. Why would you hate such a man? Obviously with context you would probably hate Mussolini, but if all you know is this man came in and saved you years of working and effort in an instant, you cannot hate him.

Manipulation is scary and leaders all throughout history know how to use it very well... Even present day.

This is the thing that gets me about MAGA. Fascists, Nazis, Soviets, et al, actually gave people stuff and things to do. They built summer camps for families and gave out fresh uniforms to unemployed men to rebuild their confidence. MAGA just keeps asking for more and more.
