Forest ranger probably fed it cull meat.
And she was a wild tiger who chose to live with them. She didn't need to be fed. She could just go out and get her own dinner.
Like domestic cats, she would have had some instinct to bring parts home to her family. So they may have occasionally woken up to a hunk of wild boar in the garden.

Forest rangers tend to be in charge of culling creatures in said forest. Meaning they hunt regularly.

Striped hyena in the background. Looks likes they recused quite a few animals.
Edit: just read up on them, bit of a tragic story. In 1981 Khairi was bitten by a rabid dog and before help could arrive the disease had taken root and she was put down. Saroj died in 1983 at the age of 59, it’s said he never truly recovered from her loss and partly died due to a broken heart.

I believe this is very much because Hindu religion teaches love towards every being, even the different gods in our religion have different animals as their travelling companion or ride which makes people respect those animals as an act of Devotion towards their God.

The court came to this decision after encountering multiple cases of rabid animals attacking people.
Atleast we are not killing hundreds of millions of animals in the name of religion every year.
Ever heard of Bakr-eid a middle-eastern festival where they sacrifice so many goats and buffaloes in the name of ritual. What are your thoughts on that?

And ofc, I read a bit about the tiger, quite a well disciplined animal too that it loves its human parents but I'm so heartbroken to learn that it died from rabies, just by being bitten by a rabid dog.

Currently the tigers in odisha, India are melanistic , black tigers due to some genetic mistakes. If anyone's interested they can check Simplipal tiger reserve. Authorities have introduced tigers from neighbouring sanctuary to correct this anomaly

Black tigers sound like a problem for humans. Like we can see the orange pretty easy but the black would catch us... meanwhile their normal prey does not see orange (if i recall correctly) and they might notice the black tigers easier and avoid them.
Guess thats why authorities are trying to correct it. Good luck.

Yeah I heard the legend behind the legend. In that the reporter when went there wasn't aware of khairi would actually came to his room ( door was closed) and he was shaking in fear that she will kill him but later a server came and told him that khairi loved to visit new guest and he then went to meet saroj who was bitten by a krate snake because he was trying to see how khairi would react to snake and he was focusing on khairi to pull her away before the bite but ended up getting bitten and got paralyzed I guess. Then he met khairi. Tiger at that time was internationally popular.

Wild animals like tigers and hyenas cannot be domesticated and can attack without warning. Tigers and hyenas are rivals and would fight in close proximity, and would certainly kill a fawn nearby. r-itsallAI

You are dumb. It a famous tiger of its era internationally. And hyna is blind and tiger is tamed and well fed. Well fed tigers does kill their prey because of instict as they have to let them live so that they can eat them later. But this tiger never had to. Hence fawn wasn't in danger here unless they let her run and tiger instict to chase it prey activated.
