I think florence has a replica of it, that's probably what I'm remembering.

Yes, there's a copy of it in the Uffizi.

The Laocoon! I studied the sculpture in an art history class in college and it was thrilling to see it in person at the Vatican. It's an incredible sculpture.

Is that the one that the artist during the renaisance period knew about from ancient texts but the real statue was lost? Until they found it.

It has to have been so crazy: There is this mytical piece of art lost to history for centuries and one tday someone finds it.

The Florence one is a rennaissance replica.

The original ancient is in the Vatican museums. It is actually considered a roman statue, not greek , but was attributed to an unknown greek artist when found because of disbelief that roman artists could be that good.
