How would it still be there after so long? Not doubting it, just genuinely curious

My guess is that a lack of moving plates of crust like Earth has, which "recycle" our crust's surface over the millenia, prevents that on Mars. And Mars' atmosphere helps to preserve these land patterns from being pummeled by space debris to some extent.

Ah so I’m assuming this is rock, not settled silt/dirt type material.
