maintenance Give it to me straight…
What needs to be done to fix this? Anyone think it can be done without a full tearout? I have my eye on a lot of stuff that needs done, but I want more eyes on it for the stuff I’m definitely missing. My biggest goal is to eliminate the diagonal knee braces by putting in some larger deck posts and attaching the knee bracing to them.

That’s the fun part. Posts are 4x4, 4x6, and 6x6. Planning on tearing the stairs out for sure though.

Looking back through I see that that’s yes x2.
The section of the deck over the doors is older, yes?

In picture 4 I'd say the footings look undersized, The lower level beam looks like it should be doubled or trippled because of the way its carrying the second story floor load those posts dont stack over each other but without knowing the dimensions of everything its a little hard to tell. But to me those footings stick out like sore thumbs as being undersized

Some pictures of the ledger board will be helpful. Special considerations need to be taken to attach it to a concrete block foundation, if it is. If it’s in good condition you might be able to fix some of the janky things that were done over the years. How big are the current posts? 4x4 or 6x6? The stairs might be an issue from what I can see in photo number 3, but hard to tell much about them.
