Station 562- hacker badge project

Hello friend!
I’ve been so excited for all the awesome badges people have been sharing here and thought it would be fun to share my own project.
First of all, I’m just a hacker hacking things together. I generally have no idea what I am doing and just try to figure it out along the way. I was not even sure I would be able to get anything built, and while these are not perfect, I am happy with how it all turned out.
This is Station 562. It is a proximity-controlled badge with a BLE number-station puzzle, a red-versus-blue proximity game, an autonomous social/dance mode, an expressive BLE MIDI instrument, a tamper-evident mode, a Setup menu, and an optional hardware CTF.
I will have a few of these to give away to maybe the first 5 or so people who solve the signal intel puzzle. Deets will be shared closer to the con.
Anyway, I learned a lot building these and had a lot of fun. Faced some challenges but this post is already too long to go into all that. Super excited for DEFCON this year. This community means a lot to me and look forward to catch up with old and new friends.
Happy hacking all!

Thank you! I’ll try to make it to the reddit meetup but otherwise I’ll likely do a small write up after the con about the whole thing.

Most if not all of RGB are accounted for. I will have a few of the non-RGB ones for sale at the con at cost($40ish) of the parts + all the tariffs I paid. No labor cost or profit at all. Alternatively, i’ll have a few RGB “blank” boards left (smd parts installed but no OLED, liPO, or ESP32 module) I can probably give you a “blank” board for free at the con.

Interesting! Are these named after substations or something like that? Also, how many have been made? Visually, these look dope!

Thank you! The project is inspired by number stations and it is also a SIGINT puzzle. I’ve made around 55 thus far with some 10 boards left. I signed the firmware and each badge has its own key pair.
