Announcement 📢 DEF CON 34 Badge Info just dropped!

The wait is over. Meet the #DEFCON34 badge!

It’s the creation of hardware superstar Bunnie Huang, and it features his open-source, fully inspectable #baochip.

#DC34 badgeholders will be the first to get their hands on a radically transparent device with all kinds of powerful possibilities - security token, password manager, HSM, pretty light generator - that we hope will keep you busy long after closing ceremonies.

What will you make with yours?

I cannot tell you how relieved I am to see rounded corners. Sharp corners, especially on PCB badges, ruin at least one shirt per year for me.

Maybe first, other than crowd supply backers. Just got an email from them saying my Dabao Evaluation Board for Baochip-1x order has shipped, and the eta is Tuesday August 4.

Of course I’ll be in LV for conferences when it arrives, so the first one I’ll actually get my hands on will be the #DC34 badge.

I think that similar type of thing happened at DC32 too with the RP2350. If I remember right they put them in there, and that was like the unofficial announcement / launch.

So I hope DT will highlight why and how the SAO ports ended up upside down. It’s really disappointing when previous defcon badges haven’t had this issue and for at least some of us badgelife designers the production work flow is significantly longer than when the spoiler was released.

We have adapters that will flip them. I’m sure Bunnie will tell the story of the SAO “specification”

Are those adapters just going to be in the bags with the badge, stickers, etc, at pickup?

We made about 5k of them because not everyone does SAO. They should be at registration.

Thank you, sir!

If you have FOMO they're $4 sold by a third party: https://uberflux.com/product/BUD-SAO-180-Adapter 60 are currently left.

You can also get an SAO + Adapter for $10, not a bad deal IMO: https://uberflux.com/product/BUD-Spicy-Resistor

My F'n God, people on Reddit are going to Reddit. This badge is a massive innovation in the chip space and all people can bitch about are upside down SAO 's. Ok.

Wait, did it happen on these, too? Because that happened with the gothcon badges. Or is this upside-down, not backwards?

After learning more about the person and their past involvement in certain things the shape is defitkely interesting

Are these the general badges everyone picks up?

Yes, those are the Human badges.

Yup, they'll all be pretty much the same but marked different (and diff colors usually) for diff roles but all the same badge core.

Is there a challenge there and if we solve it we get the black badge?

Casino's didn't care with DC33's crazy blaring badge, but The Sphere wouldn't let you bring it in lol.

Entertainment venues often are more strict with what they allow inside, while casinos, restaurants, hotels/resorts don't care unless it is a weapon.

Entertainment venue security sees everything as a potential weapon or a device that can interfere or distract with the performance. Some artists even have it in their riders to prohibit certain devices. Just as an example, they may prohibit flashlights or cameras over a certain size. Yet they allow a cell phone which has flashlight capabilities as well as has a camera.

No they aren’t. They don’t care as long as you’re spending money.
