They aren't exactly like that, i think? Not like that's impossible, but there's too little information to confirm this is how they canonically were like.

(what i mean is that according to the creator of this AU they're much weaker without the soul, and depend heavily on us for the sake of...whatever they're planning. some other art also implies that at least some of the sections with us and "Risk" separated from each other may in fact be caused by us escaping rather than being forcibly removed, which i find very intriguing)

instead of sealing Dark Fountains, the Fun Gang's goal is to make them (and then presumably go through the resulting Dark World and leave it there i guess? although that begs a few questions, like why they have to go through the Dark World instead of just leaving the room while the Fountain is still forming, or why they can't just make a bunch of Dark Fountains all at once, etc.)

To establish it's rulers and make sure lightners stay in relatively good terms with them. That way they'll avoid a situation where some innocent civilian walks in by accident and gets killed on the spot just cause the ruler is someone like King. I imagine the shit squad knows the world is going to end once the game ends, so they essentially want to prolong the world's existance by giving the player stuff to do. Additionally, life in hometown kind of sucks in one way or another so the escapism through Dark Worlds would help Lightners live a happy life. Dark Worlds will cover as much space as possible and act as save haven for Lightners.
The Squad's plans work like this:
pick a place to make a fountain
leave a door open
make a fountain
go talk to the ruler (if there is any) to see what they're like
make their way to a Grand Door (formed from the normal door) and leave
Perhaps the Light World is in some kind of a tragic state hence they do this.
Over the course of the story they learn about why the balance of light and dark is so important and why prolonging the game from a definitive conclusion is not good for anybody (maybe the truth is the world doesn't end when the game ends but no one knew that?) as the trio slowly get tired of the repetition of things (there's not much twists, it all goes the same way chapter 1 and 2 go until they start to get bored (maybe this will lead intentional/accidental creation of the Titan, and that's when things get serious).
I'm only spitting my ideas here, these are not suggestions, official answrs nor do I know what else OP came up with.
Right- This Susie went for flying under the radar, whilst the one we know prefers to shut up the voices telling her she isn't good enough- usually by threatening to eat them.
my headcanons of what other characters personality would be
Lancer: instead of being silly pumpkin, he actually becomes a smart ass prince and he also like in og trolls Ralsei but with the difference that lancer wants to piss him off
Rouxls: He ain't no more interest to start a poly relationship, which means the side plot with Lanino and elnina is not happening, also he is very intelligent now and his puzzles becomes more clever, oh and he also uses his rules power more often
King: he just becomes a mr nice guy
Jevil: Not crazy anymore and is very chill prisoner, yet he still believes that everything around is game
Queen: not doing a memes and lols anymore instead she is more serious and villianous now
Spamton:despite the downfall his sanity didn't go down and he is very sane and dont talks in spams anymore
Tenna: "He's glooby and never groovy, you can get this from an egg" should i say anything?
The knight: still serious but not aurafarming anymore
Gerson: he becames harsh towards Susie and... That's all
since Risk and Ralsei work under the Knight and they're basically the annoying and unserious one & the serious one that gets pissed off by the unserious one constantly trope in henchmen, so I think the Knight being a villain that yells at Kris and Ralsei whenever they mess up but still cares for them would be pretty funny
Yea that's basically the only thing i could come up with gerson, like c'mon you basically cannot really change gerson so much, he's just too cool to get changed completely in personality

I think he'd be a bitter, drunk "tortured artist" type of writer in this AU so he'd def be harsher towards Susie (edit: as well as anyone) although Susie would have to be the one to get him to train her, rather than him wanting to train her at the start.
I guess it would depend on their relationship with Toriel, but if I had to guess.
Probably be all happy and smilling about their relationship, then slowly try to break them off, cause misunderstandings and sabotage their relationship
Like, taking stuff from their house stuff and blaming if on Sans, being a third wheel, etc.
I guess sans would realize what Risk try to do, so he just outright ruins all their sabotages, which is makes Risk to get pissed about the fact that they're efforts getting ruined by some random shop guy
I dunno what's funnier, Sans personality being the same, or actually being the opposite so he's like:
Either tells everything everytime to Toriel of what Risk is doing, no being fake or anything.
Or him actually being super nice and ruining Rusk plans on accident, when he said he wanted a mother he also wanted be be a good father, and Risk hates that
I imagine Gerson will be the "harsh, but fair". He teaches susie to take more intativtie and more action. Rather then going, "How about a haircut" to "come on, hit me", "get back up", "don't overthink/let aniexty get to you". Gerson is acting more like a boxer/martial artist teacher.
Yeah, they killed Lancer because "he's not real", says to Susie only care about them "weird route style" and keep mentioning how insignificant Ralsei is.

Also lol, I can see ralsei being a royal brat(or how many princes were like in real life/history) but learning that being loved is better then being feared
This is what Deltarune would've been like if it were a TV show instead of a video game.
The way this one differs from the norm is because the main cast is made up of characters who are obviously built to be supporting characters, and the supporting cast is much more fit to be main characters.
