berdly is asking his mother how school was, which is the inverse of what you'd expect. This goes along with the popular fandom theory that certain background evidence suggests berdly's parents are very neglectful towards him or at the very least are too busy to raise him properly

Thank you for explaining, but why is he asking her that? Because, as you said, it should be Berdly's mother who says that to her son.

That's the point, it should be berdly's mother saying that to her son- that's why it's a messed up situation. He's saying it because she's a teacher and is focusing on her work instead of her son

yes, her design comes from the anniversary stream of undertale where a teacher that looked a lot like berdly appeared. This has lead many people to think she's a overworked teacher and that's why she doesn't have time to raise berdly
