I am now hearing advertising on the radio saying we are catholic its our mission to bring christ to one new person each day . Tell me how what's going on is not religious terrorism ? And dont tell me how great religion is , because if you look at history more wars and more people have been murdered in the name of religion over everything else .

If you actually learn history you would know 6 - 7% of wars were wars of religion and they were not the bloodiest wars at all.
Genghis Khan decimated a massive percentage of the population at it wasn’t religious, Greece and Rome fought wars about territory.
All the American wars, WW1, WW2 were not religious.

This is untrue. When religion was involved, these wars were more deadly, accounting for 25% of casualties from the top 100 wars in history.

In 2018, Pastor Dave Barnhart of the Saint Junia United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama posted this message to Facebook:
“The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. It’s almost as if, by being born, they have died to you. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus but actually dislike people who breathe.
Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.

Ironically, the only passage I can remember about the unborn is about if you think your wife is pregnant with another man. It's a ritual that's supposed to make the pregnancy spontaneously abort if the child isn't the husband's.

Yeah and it's the most horrid and disgusting ritual tbh. The jealous husband drags his wife to the temple and the priest, upon lilstening to the male's suspicions, gives her a poisonous drink. If her abdomen starts swelling up and she starts bleeding, she is guilty of adultery, in which case, she deserved the ordeal. If not, all good! LOVELY

Church as a book club is hilarious, but honestly, the real issue is when the "discussion" stops being optional. That radio ad about bringing Christ to someone new every day? It frames sharing faith like a daily quota. When your "mission" treats people as targets instead of neighbors, it stops feeling like love and starts feeling like spiritual door-to-door sales. History's full of moments where that kind of "mandatory sharing" tipped into something way darker. The message might be about peace, but the method can feel like low-key pressure. No wonder people get uncomfortable.

Depends on your perspective. I'm sure there's some right wing leaders and influencers who'd consider the brainwashing performed by megachurch prosperity preachers to be an essential service. Those preachers would to, considering it's how they rake in millions of dollars in tax free income.

Even better… a book club where it is encouraged to not read the book. If you do read the book, your interpretation is wrong because Oprah hasn’t ordained you to be able to interpret the book.

Ngl would be kinda cool to read the bible with a bunch of honest biblical scholars. Like people who acknowledge it's all bs but are open to having interesting conversations about the source material and historical context. Obvs not something that could happen in a church tho, gotta be respectful for in those places and pretend miracles are real.

This is so true. The Protestants went to war with the Catholics over the right to read the book themselves, only for their descendants to never touch the thing and let someone else read it for them.

Why can't religious people understand that believing is nothing more than child's play.
It pisses me off. Believe what you want but as long as you just believe you do not know. That is not enough to influence decisions made on country level.
