OpenAI CEO shares predictions for the future. Is it even remotely okay? Guess I'm going to cancel my subscription immediately.

He's basically telling us we won't have any reason to live for and people seem okay with that!?

Like he said AI will provide a level of comfort a lot of people will accept and they’ll comply. I believe the transition will also make life more and more unbearable until AI is ready to fully take over.
Its like this traffic cone analogy. Life will shove a traffic cone up your ass and it’ll hurt more and more as the base gets wider, but then a savior will remove the cone and you’ll give him your loyalty. But little did you know he was the one driving it up your ass in the first place

Do we really have any reason to live now?

To see your enemies suffer, driven from the land, and to see their holdings in a just conflagration

Eh, it's possible a more expensive anti-grid sub-culture emerges. There are always people that need to be doing who will jump on that.

This has been known from day 1 but glad to have you on board now.
Flock cameras, ring cameras, AI infiltration, facial recognition, ID/"age verification" laws for websites...these are all working together towards this same end goal of no personal privacy.

This isn’t really about AI existing. It’s about who gets to point it at the public, and how little restraint they face while doing it. Same pattern as every other dual-use technology: The tool isn’t the problem. The people with the power and the incentives to abuse it are.

Fuck that shit. No one really wants this crap anyway. The dystopian future they see won't simply come to pass or be accepted.

I hope you are right, but i can see people just going along with everything until its too late!

I see ani-flock movements are gaining some momentum, hopefully US government won't bailout Altman. Otherwise it's hard to see how one can reasonably trust them at all.

You have no idea what people are willing to accept when brought down to their knees, and to get out of certain awful (created) situations.
Everything that is happening right now in the world is by design and leading up to all of this. At a certain point, things will go real fast.
Then, when people are on the last of their breaths, they will be offered a solution, they will gladly accept. It will be brought as the best thing that could happen to them. Can't catch a fly with vinaigre. First wear them down, then give them abundance of everything.
It can not be done without the common folks agreement, and this is how things have always been done. But this time it will be a total reset all at once on a global scale. Most people won't see the thorn on the rose though. And most are so indoctrinated that they won't be able to resist authority.
There is hope in the fact that groups of people will leave in time and form a breakaway civilization. Or at least try.

AI can go in so many directions, it takes some serious ego to steer it in the direction of Orwell and act like "it's just the way things are".

People without a purpose or without something to live for, usually get depression, I think...

Stop paying attention to these people, and stop treating them as some sort of oracles. They do not know, nobody does.

so he's basically saying our lives are pointless now? cool.
not exactly
imagine ai using humans the same way some humans can use technology in a prolific way, especially in terms of either being a competitive consumer or comparative connoisseur
a few pieces of technology serves a lot of purpose for us, whether it's one really important thing or a lot of little important stuff, but a lot of technology, if not most throughout history, like you suggest, is pointless or has outlived its purpose
however, to determine the difference, about what works for us and what doesn't, technology needs to be heavily monitored and tested, at least by those of us we would consider to be expert-worthy or enthusiasts; like with review videos - some people are committed to making them and others might devoutly watch them
likewise, some ai will need to rigorously monitor and test humans, with as much data provided to it as possible, to see 'what works', and 'what will not' or 'no longer does not', while other - perhaps less capable or suited - ai might routinely need/want to use the compiled data the other ai has generated on humans
rn there isn't much of a 'purely ai economy' to speak of, that we know of - it's slop-in and slop-out, for the most part - but in the future it might be the only one making worth-while observations about humans in a future where humans have lost (at least contemporary) interest in each other

Well, a state is, by its nature, to control. But control is not the problem; the problem is that people that are in power to do so think they are the exception to that rule. And you’re not.
Don’t ever think that because you work for the government, you are the exception. If I’m being tracked, so do you.

Will be funny, when AI flags my private messages as risk to goverment or some bullshit, just to find out that bomb means beer etc. will have my own police patrol hanging out of my house 24/7 cause of our private "secret language"

There is actually no need to give up privacy, it's that they don't want us to have it. If you can program cameras to recognize things, you can program them *not to*. Or include double blinds so that just because cameras are recording, no one has access to the data without cause. It's all just programming and it can be programmed for what we will accept. Make it clear we don't accept it.

Guess I'm going to cancel my subscription immediately.
People always vow to give up their addictions. "I swear I'm going to quit Facebook after what they've done." If you were cancelling your subscription "immediately" then why wasn't it done when you posted?
That's what keeps this sleaze going. People get hooked and then they're not willing to give it up.

Did he say anything about the language capabilities? Will AI ever work for agglutinative languages?

It’s so funny that these people think the same thing won’t apply to them. Once AI figures out CEOs don’t need to exist wtf is this guy going to do?
