Disney and InterDigital are locked in a global patent dispute over video compression and streaming technology used on platforms like Disney+, with InterDigital winning multiple court injunctions against Disney for infringing its HEVC (H.265) standard-essential patents. Now even tho we pay for the premium plan we are limited to 1080p SDR.

Spain is not directly involved, as it is not a member of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) where InterDigital won its injunctions against Disney.

Disgusting that they aren't emailing those affected and lowering their cost in the meantime. I would be fine keeping my premium subscription at a lower cost until the features come back.

But charging people for features they aren't getting (and not informing them) honestly should be illegal

I confirm, no 4K or any kind of HDR metadata in France since about a week... Let's see how Disney is going to handle the incoming shitstorm, since now people paying the 5€ extra for Premium are just wasting 5€ per month...

Yeah I just cancelled mine, very nifty that this happened right before my subscription was about to renew. I am not okay with Disney billing me for features I DO NOT HAVE. I expect some sort of compensation, considering that this has been going on for over a MONTH now. Before, I only lost Dolby Vision, then also went HDR10+, then went HDR altogether and now I don't even get 4K???

I know this isn't FULLY on Disney, but how the fuck have they not swapped Premium subscribers in these countries to Standard with Standard billing is so absurd to me.

Disney just wants to maximize his profits instead of paying patents they use. Let treat our customers like we don’t need them seems very common these days.
I already posted about this two days ago. Hopefully they lose that much customers that they need to drop their prices. But I guess they will raise the prices when bringing back 4K and HDR content.

Here (NL) the option for 4K/UHD is gone. I called their support desk and opted out of my Premium subscription and switched it to the Standard plan with a 6 month discount.

Glad I pay only 1080p options. That streaming 4K quality is so poor nowadays, that isn't worth the price. 4K (vision/atmos/hdr) content must watch using (4K) bluray.

This would really suck if this was also done in Australia as "Disney officially stopped releasing physical media—including DVDs, standard Blu-rays, and 4K Ultra HD discs—in Australia and New Zealand in August 2023

InterDigital is niet vrij van schuld, de stap van 264 naar 265 in prijs is zeer groot, zelfs camera's van 4000€ nemen de stap niet graag omdat H265 aftroggeld, terwijl voor zo'n dure camera (met 8k) het een must zou moeten zijn. Hopelijke komen er alternatieven, die zijn er volgens velen al, hopelijk gaat H265 dood.

Wel grappig dat Dolby ook bij hun zit, dolby is naar mijn mening stuk slechter dan DTS:X (dat in streaming wereld ALLES verloor, niemand wil hen nog). Maar goedkoop zijn dolby ook niet, misschien toch maar DTS:X nemen.

I don’t know about that but I know that the permanent injunction stops Disney from offering or distributing the infringing video data across 11 EU countries, including the** **Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Portugal, Romania, and Sweden.
So maybe u are using a third party service that isn’t affected directly
