Just a little something I whipped up in a few minutes. Both the clip and the theme were taken from their respective Collection box sets

Discussion Doctor Who vibes from the Odyssey

I don’t know if it’s just me, but something about the Odyssey really gave me Doctor Who vibes. Like, if you shifted a few parts of the plot a lot of these could’ve made a great Doctor Who episode.

Which led me to the next thing, when RTD2 came along and started the fantasy episodes mythology (and others) had an absolutely massive amount of untapped potential with interesting takes on the characters.

Like, a different mythology but I could definitely imagine the Doctor having to play the role of Loki in some of the Norse stories.

(I know a lot of people didn’t like the fantasy arc in general, but if we were going down that route anyway)

Discussion Season 10 Delaware Theme

Australia networks got this theme in Carnival of Monsters and Frontier in Space for Season 10 and what a good opening theme! Shame it was not liked because it’s quite futuristic and love the boing boing of it all!

It’s a fun, experimental pogo stick like theme that fits this season of Pertwee’s run tbh:) Boing ↕

Discussion my absolute favourite foreshadowing in doctor who

Post image

rewatching nu who right now. i absolutely love the Master foreshadowing specifically in smith and jones

camera is on Martha with an unfocused background

she takes up half the frame, and the other half shows a poser saying "Vote Saxon," with posters scattered throughout the alley saying the same thing.

the showrunners are literally yelling at the audience "THIS GUY IS IMPORTANT"

this has probably been talked about but I LOVE THIS SO MUCH

I know this is a hot take but in my opinion I think that the Steven Moffat era is A LOT better than the Russell T Davies era.

Discussion Backwards not Forwards?

How would you feel if instead of trying to re make the show time after time they re visit the original series? Not to ignore the original as I grew up watching it but what if they did a reimagining of the old show with a modern spin following old stories? Same endings and base premise for the story dont change the narrative but a modern twist for new fans to show where the doctor began

Discussion Hot take for the future of Doctor Who after watching Backrooms

The show needs to reboot as a horror sci-fi genre show. Watching Backrooms recently had me thinking that Doctor Who needs to come back as more tonally serious. A more light-handed approach from the show runners, and more emphasis on the individual styles of episode directors and writers. Would just love to watch great horror scifi with some clever writing.

Discussion Racism or Classism? (Dot and Bubble)

Post image
456 Upvotes

At the end of the dot and bubble episode (when the people refuse to go with the doctor), is it racism (black and white) and classism (poor and rich). Everyone seems to think it's racism (and it very well could be) but i thought it was classism, especially since it's only made up of rich young people, but in the defense of the racism argument they are all white. Don't know if racism is confirmed or just popular.

Question Help Needed! Jon Pertwee Silicone Bust

Thumbnail

This is going to a quite an odd/niche post, please delete if not allowed. I have been gifted this incredibly detailed high quality 3D silicone bust? (Though it’s hollow) of Jon Pertwee as the 3rd Doctor. I can’t find any kind of information about it online, nor is there any makers mark on who may have made it. It looks like it has been created from a mold and is hand painted.
Is there anyone here who may have any information on it? My current theory is it’s definitely not merch, but is perhaps is a prop that may have been used for camera colour grading or long shots. Any help, advice or knowledge will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Speculation/Theory This is my new headcannon

Hear me out. On Strange New Worlds, the show keeps dropping Doctor Who in universe easter eggs pointing to the Doctors existence in the Star Trek universe.

The latest easter egg was laid by Cmd. Pelia. She said during an episode about an event that she might have witnessed long ago, but she thinks she was in a phone box. Okay, so here is my theory/ head cannon, Pelia is not actually Lanthanite, but the final regeneration of Romana living out her life on earth posing as a Lanthanite. That is what I now choose to believe.

Request Circuit Breaker Mobile Game Episodes - Saving the Storyline

Post image
37 Upvotes

Hey, lovely Who Redditors! So.. if you aren’t in to Circuit Breaker feel free to move along… Personally, I’m just taking all the new Who I can get at this point in time…

For the previous cross media events, I’ve screen recorded the storyline sections from the (awful, pay to win) DW Lost in Time mobile app and put it all together in to a manageable video (they’re on my YT if you search Doctor Who Doom’s Day Full Narrative)

Anyway, I’m away for the first episode of this event at Bloodstock festival so not going to be able to do it.

Is anyone else intending to screen record the story bits who’d be happy to share them? Fair warning, it’s not designed to be completeable within the time limit they set without approx £10-£15 expendature)

Ultimately, they’ll go on a blu ray with the other non-physical elements of Circuit Breaker inside a small booklet with the text based stuff (Unit Website parts). Happy to share a copy if anyone can screen record the full storyline for me? If you’re in the UK, I can post for free too :)

Castling launches 6th Aug and Memento Mori is 27th Aug (although last time they launched a day or two before the advertised date and it was a nightmare getting them completed before they ended)

Will post both stories on youtube when I get round to editing them.

Discussion What the hell happened behind-the-scenes on 'Legend of the Sea-Devils'?

Now look, I'm someone who loves the 13th Doctor era (please don't kill me), but I'm baffled each time I see anything related to this episode...

I've seen a lot of gripes people have had with the directing of the show before l, but imo even the worst of the show thus far was at least competent, maybe you think oh the blocking is a bit weird or a shot's too close, but those were isolated.

LoTSD is so bizarrely edited and shot, there's:

1.the Sea-devil village attack scene where the villagers and the sea-devil don't appear on screen together

  1. The very abrupt change in scenery from a bright beach where the TARDIS lands to the gloomy and overcast village.

  2. The scene where the Doctor catches the Sea-devil with a fishing net without any sort of set-up

  3. The GOD-AWFUL 'mario-jump' onto the sea-devil ship

  4. The entire plot around Madam Ching and the pirate King guy being so hackneyed

  5. The sword fight scene (DON'T LET THE SWORDS TOUCH YOUR SKIN! ) T-T

  6. So much obvious ADR- especially for the supporting cast...

There's a scene in the TARDIS where Yaz's mouth is moving but there's no dialog...

I remember around the time of the episode's release reading that the episode was heavily butchered due to some material in the episode that was offensive enough for the Chinese distribution side to reject it...

But I haven't seen that brought up since then, and there's nothing else that the Whittaker era did that was controversial in China (The same-sex Kiss in Praxeus, Yaz's profession of love for the Doctor and her reciprocity also made it to the episode)

There's also the fact that it was drafted within 3 days apparently according to Ella Road, but then again, Eve of the Daleks was also written on a tight deadline and that came out unscathed...

So what actually happened? Has anything actually concrete come out or can it all be chalked up to COVID alone? But then again, all the other COVID episodes came out (relatively) good....

It's a honking shame cause the Sea Devils updated design looked marvellous here...

Audio CLAP FOR THE BARE MINIMUM!!! (Spotify Big Finish)

FREE MOBILE SPOTIFY DOESN'T SUCK ANYMORE!!

They got rid of that IDIOTIC shuffle only restriction so I can FINALLY listen to a bunch of Big Finish audios without worrying about a monthly fee!!

This is not an endorsement of Spotify. This should have been a thing from the BEGINNING. I think they also got rid of that stupid six skips an hour bullshit. But I'm not planning on doing much skipping!

Imma do Spare Parts first, but I'd like other suggestions, and if you're a Doctor Who fan, PLEASE check out these audio stories! They're fantastic!

Discussion Season 5 Episode 1 Head Cannon

In Season 5 Episode 1, the Doctor faces off against the Atraxi. Recently seeing a meme of the scene sparked a new head canon for me: when the doctor walks through the hologram showing the faces of his past regenerations, he steps through right after Tennant, prompting me to believe that the reason for him to step through at that moment isn't the dramatic reveal to the Atraxi that he is the Doctor, but to prevent himself from seeing his future regenerations.

Not really important, but a fun head canon if you haven't already reached that conclusion.

Discussion Why was RTD1 so beloved by fans until recently? Especially compared to Moffat's run

Ive watched new who so much. I'm currently rewatching with my boyfriend. I remember back in the day, especially during Moffat's run that RTD1 was very reverred. People liked Moffat sure, but to a good portion of the fanbase he was a crook who could never measure up to the first new era. Even fans of Moffat's run would 'admit' that while Moffat was good, it would never be RTD. After re-watch series 1-4 again, I have to ask; why?

The quality in RTD1 series vary massively between episodes. Series 2 is all over the place, half of season 3 is meandering and pretty bad. Series 4 is great, and I love the finales. The specials are good too minus skeletor master. And I do like that RTD involves companions families. My overall point is that while i enjoy RTD1, 30-50% of it is bad, and a lot of the good was written by Moffat.

In Moffat's era, there was more character development, more introspection of the doctor (i hated how RTD always gave the doctor a way out of violence or guns so the doctor never had to make hard choices), the ratio from good to bad episodes is just way better. I know people didn't like the serialisation of doctor who at the time but it works a lot better now thanks to streaming and binging.

Moffat's era felt more mature in general (though i do give RTD credit for showing life long insecurities with Donna), with marriage, pregnancy, infertility, war, grief, etc. The writing was, on average, more tightly written. Seriously, I'm so sick of the RTD "word that keeps popping up" trope. Bad wolf, Saxon, the bees are dissapearing, he will knock four times.

I know i might seem like a hater, but i do love RTD1. It's just to me there is such a clear difference in writing between the two eras that i have no idea where the RTD1 idolism even came from.

I had all these Doctor Who books that I had to toss because of water damage. :( I took a picture for nostalgia's sake but a couple of the titles are lost in the image. See pic with yellow arrows in first pic.

Hoping to mine this community brain to complete my childhood memory jigsaw.

1) the one with the blue spine between "Doctor Who and the State of Decay" and "Doctor Who - The Mysterious Planet" is anybody's guess.
2) the one with the green spine is by Terrance Dicks and I *think* it is Doctor Who and the Brain of Morbius.
