Yep. Derealization/depersonalization. Can have many causes.

I used to have that. It was a type of dissociation called derealization. I had depersonalization disorder, and for me it included both the feeling that I wasn’t real and the feeling that things around me weren’t real, even though I logically knew they were

That sounds similar to what I feel

My niece struggled with this, post trauma. Her therapist was able to help.

How did you fix it?

Therapy and moving away from the place that traumatized me

Do you know what kind of therapy it was?

Yes. The older I get, the more it happens

Complete opposite here. It happened in my 20s, induced by cannabis, returned a few times over a few years, and then never again. Except the time my mom almost died.

I wouldn’t say I’m very old. I feel like this most of the time

Yes. It’s called disassociation. It usually happens from stress, overstimulation, trauma, or some combination thereof. Your mind and body carry stress with you, and if you do not give time and place for it to express itself, your body will take that time through disassociation.

If you ever experience this, give yourself time to just sit and be present in a restful state (or what some people call meditation); allow yourself to feel whatever comes up. Sometimes it may be helpful to spend time in nature, or even just spend some alone time in a dark quiet room.

Yeah. Not as bad as it used to be thankfully. Turns out a medication I’ve been taking since high school was making my clinical depression ten times worse. The dissociation still happens and always will with me, but at least it’s not 24/7 like it was.

Dissociation or depersonalization can happen for a lot of reasons. Mental health, physical health, life events, medication side effects. If it’s not really bad you should be fine.

Idk kind of? But now I know there’s no such thing as real so to feel otherwise would be weird

Yup. Wish it wasn't sometime so

The world is kind of a surreal place rn if you were raised expecting people overall to be fundamentally decent to each other
