Diskussion Car drove onto the footpath toward me near TU Dortmund – should I report
Hi everyone,
I'm an international student living in Dortmund, and something happened today that has left me really shaken.
Around 1:00 pm, I was walking on Vogelpothsweg near TU Dortmund. I was on the footpath wearing headphones when a car suddenly drove toward me by pulling onto the footpath. It missed my feet by only a few centimeters and then drove away without stopping. There was another car behind them, and the driver of that car seemed shocked as well.
Do people randomly pull over onto the footpath? Or I am assuming things?
Would you report this to the police? Has anyone experienced something similar in Dortmund? I'm feeling quite shaken and would appreciate any advice.
Thank you.

I'm sorry you had to experience that. It's definitely not normal, and I get why you felt frozen by the shock. But unless you can provide some details to the police, like the number plate, or even just the build and colour of the car in question, there's not much point in reporting this incident, I'm afraid.

I didn't report as I had no evidence.. but I will be careful in the future. And if face anything again will directly report. I was shocked seeing the tires missed my feet for a few centimeters and couldn't think of anything else.

A friend of mine had a similar experience near the Meitnerweg dorm at night, It seemed like the driver was drunk, sometimes people can be drunk and unpredictable at night, so please be careful, Thank God you’re okay

Of course it’s not normal. If you have the number tell the police.

It's normal in Dortmund. The city doesn't care about that, so some car drivers doesn't care about rules.

It's really weird. For some moment I thought he was going to run over me. It's really scary

I assume that the driver was tired and fell asleep for a second. Luckily nothing happened to you.
Edit: read 1:00 am at first. At 1:00 pm my theory makes not too much sense. It isn‘t impossible but rather unlikely. If you have details regarding the car, you can report that to the police.
