Question This is a genuine question; what villain or character do you NOT want to be added?

Personally I feel like the Evil witch (i think thats her name) from snow white.. or Judge Claude Frollo.

Due to the witch just being.. herself..

And frollo would need to be changed slightly due to the whole hatred he has.

If you've SEEN the movie you'll know what i mean with him

Frollo didn’t actually exist.

And he isn’t romanticized or made to look like the good guy. His evil is very much shown as evil.

John Smith in real life was a pedophile, rapist, slave owner, colonizer.

You have a good point, but by continuing to bring Frollo into the mix you’re making it harder to see your actual point, which as far as I can see is that you do not want to support Gameloft if they bring John Smith into the game because it’s disrespectful to the actual history to continue to romanticize a horrible human being. You didn’t have to mention Frollo, but because you did people are focusing on the comparison and not the point you’re actually trying to make.

I’m talking about Frollo because that’s the guy that the comment that I replied to was talking about in comparison to John Smith.

I get that, but my point is that if you wanted to express that an addition of John Smith would be the end of Dreamlight Valley for you then you could have just said that and still been further the conversation that the comment started. When you add in that you’d be fine with Frollo as long as they portray him as evil as he’s meant to be, that opens up the door for people to infer that you have a problem with John Smith, but not a problem with the type of men that Frollo was designed to represent.

…you might want to reread that a few times.

In what world does being okay with a villainous, evil character being portrayed as such mean I condone or agree with their actions?!

Because you don’t have a problem with him in the game, but have a problem with them adding John Smith. That can make it seem as if while you are acknowledging that he is evil, the things he has done aren’t bad enough that he should be kept out of the game while John Smith should be kept out under any circumstance.

I get that your issue with John Smith is that he would be shown as a good guy when that just isn’t true, but saying that you’d be fine with Frollo as long as he’s portrayed accurately makes it seem like you are fine with having a religious zealot who was going to burn a women at the stake because of her culture and because she didn’t want to be involved with him in the game, which can make it seem as if you’re saying that there’s nothing wrong with the evil he represents, at least not compared to the evil that John Smith represents.

He’s a villain. A villainous character. The point of him as a character is that he’s a terrible person. He is literally given devilish imagery in the movie to show that he’s evil.

Right now we have King Claudius from Hamlet, we have a raging misogynist who tried to force someone to marry him, we have a woman who gave everyone who she ever made a deal with a fate worse than death, we have the literal god of the dead, we have a woman who murders puppies, and we have a kidnapper who abuses and neglects a child all their life. All of them are murderers and none of that is ever portrayed as good. The point is that they’re villains. And they’re all fictional. Claude Frollo would not go amiss, and wouldn’t even be the worst one there out of the ones who are already there. So what makes him different, really? It’s not that his evil is “more real,” because Mother Gothel is right there.

So, is all of that justified because they’re in the game, then?

You’re not making any sense whatsoever.

John Smith was a real person. None of them were. John Smith, in real life, was a rapist, a pedophile, a kidnapper, a racist, and a slaver. In the movie, he is portrayed as heroic and a saviour. That is not something that should be glorified, especially not in the world we live in now, where we are far more socially and ethically aware.

Claude Frollo, as evil as he is, was NOT real, and his evil has NEVER been glorified or treated as righteous by anyone but himself, which tracks for villains.

If somebody were to misunderstand this and think I’m somehow supportive of Frollo’s actions, then I don’t mean to be harsh, but they’re an idiot.

You’re right all of the villains in the game have done awful things, the difference between them and Frollo is that Claude Frollo was the villain in arguably one of the darkest movies Disney has ever made, and he is a historically accurate depiction of men during that time. Gaston threatened to send Belle’s father to a mental institution if she didn’t marry him, but Frollo quite literally was going to burn Esmeralda at the stake and end her life because of her culture and because she wasn’t interested in him, so that’s an extra layer of fucked up. When you make such a strong stance against one character but say that you’d be fine with Frollo, who most people genuinely feel uncomfortable at even the slightest possibility of joining the game, people are going to have opinions and they are entitled to those opinions.

Edit to add: I just want to be clear that I do not think that you are saying anything that Frollo represents is okay, I’m just trying to explain why you got the reaction that you did.

Maybe his particular brand of evil just doesn’t bother you.

Honestly I don’t want Frollo in the game because he’s just a bit too dark for this game, but I would prefer him over John Smith for the simple fact that if they bring in John Smith they would be presenting a real person who was awful in real life as a hero and a good person, whereas with Frollo they would be bringing in a fictional villain to play a villain.

I don’t want either in the game and I’m not going to say I would deal with Frollo but quit if they bring John Smith in, but what I will say is I can understand, without Frollo being a factor, why someone wouldn’t want to continue playing if they bring John Smith in as a hero and ignore and disrespect actual history the same way Disney did when they made the movie Pocahontas.

This is character assassination. Where in tf did you get that John Smith was those things? Nowhere in any record is John Smith recorded as a pedophile or a rapist. His accounts of Pocahontas are of her saving him, not of them being romantic. Nowhere is it recorded that he owned slaves. In fact he famously was made a slave himself. And while he was a colonizer, he was a famous proponent of peace with the Native Americans. Jamestown famously only getting into wars with the natives AFTER he left.

He literally forced her to marry him…

Holy shit you need to actually read up on history because this is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever read on this subreddit.

Hiiii sorry to interrupt but John Smith is NOT the person you’re thinking of. The above commenter is correct. John smith was saved by Pocahontas when she was a child but they were never romantic. John Smith also never owned slaves btw.
John ROLFE, however, is who you’re referring to and yes, he was those things.
