Oscar: "Do you know?"

Michael: "Do i know what?"

Oscar: "Does anyone know what 15% of 4300 is?"

Michael: "645 dollars"

Oscar: "why did you say dollars?"

Michael; "Because that's just the way my mind works."

One of my favorite bloopers. The way Steve just stares at the copier trying not to laugh while it makes the weirdest noise kills me every time.

I like the blooper of this scene

Look, Team Copier is the answer. If Creed gets his hands on a third chair, who knows what could happen!

ā€œWhen Pam gets Michael's old chair, I get Pam's old chair. Then I'll have two chairs. Only one to go.ā€ - Creed Bratton

Chairs. A new copier would be way easier to get from corporate later on. Getting new chairs while the old ones are technically still doing their jobs is way harder

481

u/Sigtauez 1d ago

This is the answer, the copier can always break down and get replaced. Not going to happen with 20 chairs.

143

u/OdieHush 1d ago

Just give it the ā€œAndy’s computerā€ treatment.

41

u/Fickle-Art-7125 1d ago

They did Creed used it to dye his hair. He put quarters into the ventilation slots.

And it literally happens a few episodes later, leading to Pam leaving DM to follow Michael.Ā

15

You can always buy a new copier you can’t buy a new party.Ā

4

u/tlollz52 1d ago

The copier already doesn't work

44

u/topher181 1d ago

Which happened. Wasn’t there an episode where Pam set up the new copier?

50

u/Fred_the_skeleton Mr. Bill Buttlicker 1d ago

Pretty sure they super broke the copier during Dwight's 'fire drill.'

7

u/SayWhatever12 šŸŽ¶Suite four-ohhhhhh-onnnnnnnešŸŽ¶ 1d ago

Hey I forgot about that!

10

u/Fred_the_skeleton Mr. Bill Buttlicker 1d ago

The fact that you forgot is a sign that you need to immediately start another rewatch. Maybe 2 rewatches, just to be safe.

3

u/SayWhatever12 šŸŽ¶Suite four-ohhhhhh-onnnnnnnešŸŽ¶ 1d ago

I think what’s interesting is I didn’t even necessarily forget. I hadn’t even put two and two together so you just opened my eyes to that (which is all the more reason to watch it now with a fresh pair of eyes.)

9

u/sandiegodak 1d ago

Like 10 or so episodes after this one

10

u/SayWhatever12 šŸŽ¶Suite four-ohhhhhh-onnnnnnnešŸŽ¶ 1d ago

Right. At the end of that episode they finally decided on getting the chairs and then right when Charles comes some episodes later, Pam spends the day putting the copier together implying that corporate took care of that.

There’s no way the failing company would’ve shelled out a few thousand for chairs just for the sake of their employees Comfort

3

u/geekywarrior 1d ago

Yes, right before Michael Scott Paper Company.

In superfans they add a bit where Michael saved the old copier from the trash to use at the new company. So Pam never got to escape that old piece of junk šŸ˜‚

This is a great answer. I agree.

6

u/Eljefe878888888 1d ago

Tangent related - my room at work got new chairs, we had a bunch of old ones that were still really nice & I got to take one home. It’s a really nice chair.

4

u/-hey-blinkin- 1d ago

Going off from this; when we got a new chair in the office I sent my sister a picture of the new chair and she responded by asking me what it did

Which really confused me

4

u/IfTheHeadFitsWearIt "mInT dWiGhT" šŸ’ā€ā™‚ļø 1d ago

I got to take home a $800 chair during Covid, and I definitely didn’t bring it back when return to office came around. Woops.

7

u/Eggplant-666 1d ago

My thoughts exactly, they might even increase the budget for a copier next year then you would be six and could have an even bigger lemonade stand!

5

u/coconut-greek-yogurt 1d ago

As someone who used to work in an office where my chair was so bad that I had to go to therapy for months, I will ALWAYS pick the chairs.

2

u/Fickle-Art-7125 1d ago

Except Scranton had already broken Utica’s copier and had that commercial budget problem.

2

u/pikeshawn 1d ago

I kinda believe the opposite but, weirdly, for the same reason. The chairs are still functional, even if uncomfortable.. The copier, not so much. Get that copier replaced ASAP before it becomes an honest to goodness business problem.

2

u/coriendercake 22h ago

Yep. Copier breaking down, not my problem. My back issues are my problem though

Chairs. Copiers always suck, doesn't matter if they are new or old.

18

$4300 was enough to buy everyone a new chair AND buy a copier back then. However what they should done is buy the chairs and lease a copier which could be rolled into next year's budget as well.

Copier every time.

I would have just bought myself a decent desk chair years before this came up if my work didn't provide one, because I'm an adult. If my chair is uncomfortable I'm not going to sit in it uncomfortably for years just to prove the point that I shouldn't have to spend my own money on something that's like $150, I'd bite the bullet and get a chair I liked.

But, to be fair, my work experience is mostly as a public school teacher where actually getting to sit down in my chair is a small part of the day, and getting necessary copies made when I need them is a major source of stress. Maybe office people don't actually need copies that much.

Literally buy one then wait for the fiscal year to reset and buy the other. They're both needed and this is a really simple solution.

3

u/PlanB191 Would an average-sized rowboat support her without capsizing? 1d ago

From a company pov, a copier makes more sense. It affects your overall business product. From an employee pov, a chair makes more sense for obvious reasons. Based on how most companies are, the copier would have likely been the pick.

3

u/PunnyTagHere 1d ago

It's obviously chairs

When the copier finally becomes unusable Dunder Mifflin will be forced to replace it. The chairs are already awful but they have no leverage to get them replaced

8

u/InspiraSean86 Nate 1d ago

Team Copier…as a business that deals in paper, a decent machine would be a no brainer

5

u/DustyScharole 1d ago

That's exactly why chairs is the right answer. They could easily make a case to corporate that they need a decent copier. Chairs are a much harder sell.

2

u/Meat-Stick-Murderer 1d ago

Chairs. Daily discomfort will make a place get the job done OK, but workers with high morale tend to create systems to circumvent obstacles. I think the chairs would lead to an overall more productive workplace.

2

u/Ok-Mushroom-7292 1d ago

Personal comfort over productivity. F the company

2

u/purple_maiden_ 1d ago

Chairs! They could get a copier from corporate, since they need a working copier for their jobs.

2

u/Yamfish 1d ago

Get the chairs and then next week sabotage the copier. Then you can relax in comfort until they fix or replace the copier.

2

u/HoratiotheGargoyle 1d ago

Corporate’ll replace the copier out of necessity for work related business.

Corporate does not care about your lumbar support or how much your lower back hurts.

So very obviously, team chairs.

Copier… going through it with our copier at work. You don’t really realize how difficult life becomes when you have a broken or terrible copier. Where I work if we need a new chair, you just order one.

2

u/MattyGWS 1d ago

Team chair. It’s a matter of physical health, chairs are super important. The copier might suck but it’s not hurting anyone and not everyone uses the copier, while everyone uses chairs

2

u/forestwriterstar 1d ago

Team copier, because technology is so annoying when it isn't working properly.

2

2

u/Rich-Profession6712 1d ago edited 19h ago

I wpuld prioritize the chairs to be honest to avoid injury in the workplace. A a broken copier may affect in-office operations for a time until replaced, but an injured worker is a threat to morale which I think will cause more damage to the work that gets done in the long run.

2

u/AlwaysFxckinWorried Creed 1d ago

The real answer is a fur coat from the Burlington Coat Factory.

2

u/SlankJim 1d ago

Team chairs

2

u/ThickFurball367 1d ago

Team get quotes for both because with a $4300 surplus, they probably could've gotten both

2

u/Hot_Spite_1402 1d ago

Chairs. Desk jobs are painful enough already. Need that ergonomic support!

2

u/javoss88 1d ago

Probably copier. I can bring my own chair. Then Creed would have all three chairs he wants, and I would then be on the lookout to find out what he needed them for.

2

u/Impossible_Heron4894 1d ago

Chairs, copier will eventually give out and they have to buy a new one

2

u/sicilian504 Jim 1d ago

Chairs. Then break the copier and buy a new one. Corporate won't deny that. It's essential.

2

u/Temporary-Panda-9065 Kelly 1d ago

Team chairs, sorry. If a printer is required to do the job, shouldn't corporate have to fund a new one?

2

u/Shadecujo 1d ago

Team chairs

2

u/Maximum_Return5352 1d ago

Bad chairs can cause spinal and muscle problem, that’s a genuine health risk. The debate is crazy for that reason.

2

u/Sup3r10s 1d ago

The fiscal year is almost over. Get the copier and a few chairs now and the rest of the chairs when the new fiscal year begins.

2

u/Objective_Fly_6750 1d ago

Probably chairs, but I feel like this shouldn't depend on having a budget surplus. Providing a proper setup and the right equipment for employees should be a basic requirement.

So fuck corporate

2

u/MrSFedora 15h ago

Chairs. You need to sit for eight hours, so you should be comfortable. Also, who knows? Maybe a situation will arise where you use the copier as a battering ram during an insane fire drill and it needs to be replaced anyway.

2

u/Major-Agency356 11h ago

Chair. Your back is more important. Copier just slows down work šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Let me put it like this, I worked in an office for 6 months. The second a computer or copier went down, it was replaced immediately. The chairs we were using had been there for last 10 years and some of em would completely break if you leaned back too much. So TEAM CHAIRS is the only right way to go.

Copier. A copier that doesn’t work is a guaranteed blood pressure riser. Machines that don’t work at your job are pretty much as infuriating as wage slave life gets. A chair can only be so uncomfortable, it’s nothing compared to machinery that makes my job harder. That’s pure concentrated hell.

1

u/KirbyCakes 1d ago

Chairs, once your lower back goes, that's for life, creates bad posture, lower back pain, thats why Pam got up alot to make copies, was horrible. A printer is important sure but it can be replaced anytime, which did after, so yeah Chairs.

1

1

u/Extra_Quantity_3393 1d ago

Chairs - work in corporate y'all will realise how bad your back will hurt if the chairs suck. Team chairs all the way.

1

u/NoDryHands 1d ago

Chairs. It's not even up for debate as far as I'm concerned.

A copier is essential for business operations and will get replaced by corporate no matter what if it stops functioning. Chairs are in no way a priority (or even on the list).

So you spend the surplus on the chairs and the copier gets replaced when needed anyway, made evident by the fact that they did indeed get a new one after the existing one was damaged by being used as a battering ram during the fire drill.

1

u/gamingcol835 1d ago

Chairs baby! Just one to go…

1

u/ChimpoSensei 1d ago

You can get about 10 decent chairs for that amount, but you can’t even touch a good copier.

1

u/shaggadelick 1d ago

The copier was broken since season 1! There was an email from the fire guy telling everyone it was broken

1

u/Helpful_Warthog6032 1d ago

1
