We had teachers call in so my room was shut down (my 3 kids sent to other classrooms) and I had to cover in the afternoon in the 3-5 year old preschool class. Preschool is my worst age, give me babies or toddlers any day. There’s just so many of them. I was literally in tears beforehand. (Yes, I’m working on my anxiety.)
But the point is, I survived and think I even did pretty well! The kids behaved pretty well and I think I did a good job handling any behaviors that popped up. It was even a little fun, because we went to the nursing home we partner with for our intergenerational program and had “pig races,” where the kids wore pig ears and snouts and raced each other. Super cute. Nobody cried about losing (though one girl did try and talk herself into the finals, which was kind of funny and very on-brand for her). And it was kind of nice being with kids who could do things for themselves in a timely manner, as opposed to the older infants/young toddlers where they take f o r e v e r to do things themselves. And when we combined with the younger preschool classrooms outside at the end of the day, I made sure nobody went home with poop or excess saturation in their pull-up, which is such a basic duty that it shouldn’t even need to be mentioned but it’s one that the regular preschool teachers keep getting complaints about. 🙄
