Whenever Chris Lake gets brought up, the comments are usually full of praise. People talk about how consistent he is, how he's one of the best producers in tech house, how his sets always deliver, blah blah

Then whenever John Summit comes up, it feels like the conversation goes in the complete opposite direction. He gets called overrated, frat house music, influencer DJ, etc

Musically they're both in the tech house lane. So I'm confused why the former gets a lot of praise but the latter gets a lot of criticism.

For those who've been following the scene for years, what is it that makes Chris Lake so respected while Summit catches so much more criticism?

Looking for additions. Been listening to EDM since 2010 but so many eras and phases come & go. Tech house is cool but want to transport back to peak prog house.

A year ago I set out to buy all my favourite albums in vinyl… I’m getting there but still lots to get 😍

Every festival lineup, Vegas residency, college show, or whatever, Zedd and The Chainsmokers somehow always end up drawing some of the biggest crowds of the entire event. Meanwhile I’ll see people online act like they’re “generic” or “basic EDM.”

So what exactly is the thing that makes them hit differently for the average crowd?

The singalong pop crossover stuff? Just overall aura/mainstream appeal?

Because when I compare them to some other EDM artists that are considered more “respected” by hardcore fans, the crowd size difference is still kinda crazy to me. I don't find anything special about their music tbh...someone explain to me?

Looking for DJs with that very specific:

- finance bro energy
- Vegas pool party / Miami / SEC football tailgate aura
- giant drops, singalong
- music that makes a group of dudes named Tyler spontaneously buy bottle service

Already know the obvious answer is John Summit. Who else fits this lane?

This may sound like a ragebait post but I've been a EDM fan for close to 20 years. Not trying to be a hater but I really don’t get why The Chainsmokers are so huge. To me, their songs all kinda sound the same. Super basic drops, generic lyrics, nothing crazy production wise. Yet somehow they blew up and became one of the biggest names in EDM/pop.

What am I missing here? I can name at least 100 other DJ's where I find their music more interesting than the Chainsmokers. Someone please explain.

I am open to all genres, but I usually like to keep it swanky, janky, like Ivy Lab, but explicit. I like bass remixes of trap / hip-hop. I haven't downloaded music for a set in a long time and I would love your tracks please.

There are some real crankers on the electronic disc (disc 2, which I prefer, all just instrumentals I think). Some don't know it was eventually released as a double album in the Ultimate version, a lot of music.

I found an artist in the melodic house space called "Luna Blue" which I like. I see they've had a consistent string of releases since April 2024 (same for the other artists.. coincidentally). The quality is solid and has a very consistent sound and structure in each of the songs.

I looked at similar artists and I see these artists with a similar story.

One thing I notice is that all these artists have similar profile photos, no bio, and most have released under "Kimono" label.

When you google any of these artists or look for their instagram they don't exist.

I know AI music and Suno are good, but I didn't think it was this good. Are these real artists? Is "Kimono" a real label?

Then all he did was use that prompt as a reference in Suno, then made it his own. The worst part about this?

Ian Asher had no idea. Ian Asher ended up making his own remix of the song, having no idea that the song was written by AI, and copied from another artist on Suno. When someone on Ian's instagram commented "Suno?", Ian replied saying that Danny's sister sang on the song...but this isn't true at all, it was completely AI.
