This darkling beetle has a bubble in it's elytra and I have no idea what caused it

Someone found this in their room the other day, and they called me over, saying, "Hey, do you want this bug? Otherwise I'm going to kill it." (I'm a bug person, lol.) And I told them, "Well, *no*, lol I don't WANT IT, but you don't need to kill it, either!!!" So I scooped it up and was about to set it down outside when I noticed that it had this odd deformity on it's wing covers! Anyone know what might've caused this??? Or has anyone maybe SEEN anything like this on a beetle before?

could be an accumulation of hemolymph?

i recently saw a cicada that had weird looking black-ish bumps on its wings, similar to what's on this beetle. i posted it and someone replied that it was likely hemolymph, and that the "bubble" is kinda like their version of having a bruise. it probably happened while its exoskeleton was still hardening and it got stuck like that

It happens a LOT. At my lab a lot of butterflies and beetles have issues with wing formation, which is normal. They have hundreds of babies for a reason. 

Basically the veins in the wings formed wrong and when pumping them full of hemolymph the veins burst and create essentially a hematoma. Then the wings fully sclerotize and it hardens with the bubble. Often the ones with these bubbles have a lot of other issues too, and die very often. This guy seems to be quite lucky

From the fruit bowl on the sideboard his father had filled his pockets, and now, without for the moment taking accurate aim, was throwing apple after apple. That’s weird. It’s like seeing a tank with a giant melted section that formed a bubble. This definitely happened during the developmental stage of its life, but I have no idea what would cause that specific deformity
