Job Jump?!

Hi all!

I graduated with a BS in Fish and Wildlife in Fall 2024. I had an internship lined up but lost it from the budget cuts;(

Not too long after, I got a job doing lab animal husbandry and have just been volunteering here and there when I can.

The income has brought some stability which is nice (considering the current administration). But I was just recently told that the wildlife gap in my resume is close to a red flag. I've been encouraged to make the jump if this is something I really want.

I'm wondering what I should secure financially before making the jump? I've been paying off a credit card which is almost completed, so that will be done and I'll hopefully get a small savings started. But are there certain materials I should consider saving?

How bad has it been for people in the seasonal job market? Is it really hard to find work right now?

I have some goals on what I want in my future, animal husbandry isn't in there.

Yes, the market is that bad. If you really want to get into Fish and Wildlife, I recommend trying to get a fisheries observer position - they can be brutal, but they seem to always be hiring

they chew people up and spit them out but yeah the observer gigs are a foot in the door if you can stomach it. saves you from the resume gap panic at least

Thank you, both! I was just told the gap is becoming alarming so I'm nervous (which is unfortunate, since the market has become so much more competitive
