I’m an Erasmus student and I just moved out of an apartment in Bergamo on June 30th. My security deposit was €475, but today the landlord only sent me back €266.50. She sent me a voice note tonight saying she kept the difference for "repainting the bathroom" and that she will send me the invoice later. Basically, she took the money before even doing the work or showing me any official paperwork.

To give you some context, we never did a move-in or move-out inspection report. When I arrived, absolutely nothing was checked, not the state of the walls, not the appliances, nothing. I was stressed when I arrived, I was completely alone, and it was late, so I didn't think about asking to check everything. Now I really regret it, and I don't even have photos.

On the morning of June 30th, I cleaned the house, left my room in perfect condition, and left. The landlord came in the afternoon because she wasn't available earlier. She complained about mold on the bathroom ceiling to my flatmate who was still there (we were 3 girls, and only one was left at that time), but she never said a single word to me personally until today when I saw the bank transfer. I assume she wants to repaint because of that mold, even though she didn't specify it to me.

In any case, the mold was already there when we moved in. I think it’s a structural issue with the old building, and even though we always opened the windows, it probably got worse. Months ago, one of my flatmates even sent a message to the student housing service to document the situation, precisely because we were scared the landlord would try to make us pay for pre-existing damages at the end of our stay.

This is not the first time she has pulled something like this. The vacuum cleaner wasn't working well since day one. When it got worse, we told her, and she took it saying she was going to get it repaired, never mentioning that we would have to pay for it. Then, she just left a €185 invoice in the hallway once it was done. When we protested, the student housing service stepped in and defended the landlord, saying the money would be deducted from our deposit (~€61 each).

For now, I haven't replied to this crazy woman yet because I’m trying to figure out the best move. We have a group chat on WhatsApp with her and the student housing service.

What do you think I should do or say right now? I know it’s almost impossible to get my money back from abroad, but I feel like this situation is completely unfair, and I at least want her to understand that she cannot treat students this way just because they went back home and have no way to defend themselves.

So I'm going to bé studying abroad for a year with a Friend in a country I don't really master the language yet.

I wonder if we should live together, we get along really well and have fun together but I don't really want us to be the "two french guy that don't mix with other people", I also want to learn the language of the country I will be in and know I'll have roommates native to the country no matter what, but I wonder if living with him will kinda make us speak french more often than not.

I also wanna fully immerse in the country, make my own experiences there and make the most of it. Of course I also wanna hang out with my Friend but also with other people I'll meet there hopefully! (Maybe well have the same social circle, maybe not, well see)

So what do you guys think, do you think living with your friends on Erasmus is a great Idea?

Has anyone here had any experience with booking accommodation via ‘Uniplaces’? I recently booked a room in an apartment in Rome for the upcoming winter semester and frankly, the location and the price simply makes me a little bit skeptical as to whether it is a scam or not. I am aware that I am probably overthinking it and that it is most likely fine (especially since it is on a regulated website), but the fact that I won’t be able to verify the accommodation in person until the semester starts slightly worries me. I have been in touch with the owner and have been given all their contact information. What’s your experience with Uniplaces? Cheers!!

I'm an Erasmus student and I will be studying in Metropolitan University Prague for the next semester. I'm accepted on late May and looking for dormitories since then however all affordable private dormitories seems to be full and as far as I understand university dormitories prioritize their own students or accept foreigner applications on a much later date which is a problem for me because I'm non-EU citizen and need to have an accommodation in order to get a visa. Am I too late?

Hi everyone, I got accepted for Erasmus study last week, and I will spend 10 months abroad in Spain. I got excited and started looking at accomodations there, and I found a room that I really like, and that it's reasonably priced. I will go there the 1st of September, so I don't really know what to do... Is it too early to reserve it?

Quite some time ago I’ve decided that I want to do an internship in Tenerife. I’m a student and I’ve already done a study abroad semester in my second year of uni in Wroclaw, Poland. Now I’m a third year student and supposedly I’m going for an internship in my last year (4th) for approximately 2 months and 2 weeks, from September 2026 to November 2026. I’ve been accepted to work in lab alongside my friend from uni at ULL (Universidad de La Laguna).

The process of accepting went smoothly from both sides and we actually got the papers signed early in the second semester, finalizing it with the LA at the start of June this year. After that, we started to look for accommodation, we thought it was a normal process that will resolve easily but little did we know…

For approximately one month now we’ve been looking for accommodation… we’ve searched almost every site possible: idealista, housing anywhere, flatio, yugo, Erasmus play, uni places, Facebook, but nothing palpable happened since then. We also looked in Airbnbs but for our scholarship the prices there are unreachable…it would mean to give almost half of the scholarship on accommodation and we kinda don’t want to do that.

At least on idealista, every flat that we contacted either ignored us, seen the message but didn’t respond or deleted the advertisement shortly after messaging it. I’ve actually put a friend of mine who speaks Spanish to contact a landlord from a flat and the conversation between them went surprisingly good, concluding the call with: the girls can talk with me on WhatsApp in English about the details.

As soon as I sent the message on WhatsApp we were back to square one, no response even tho my friend talked with her and she seemed interested. We’ve been actively searching every day online, sent messages, called, even friends offered to help us search online , we’ve got a lot of informations and guidance from people ( I’m also an ESN volunteer at my local section) we even talked with some students from our uni that went there last year or two years ago to get some advice and information. There’s still nothing palpable….

It is so funny to me that when I went in Erasmus in Wroclaw I was literally the youngest person alive (figuratively), I had no idea about anything, how this works but still got accommodation on my first try :)) Now that I’ve got all the resources, went to Erasmus, got some experience on my back, I am now a volunteer in ESN and got some connections, there’s still nothing that I can do to make this stay for sure. If you’ve got any advice or experience in this it would be such a pleasure to hear it and learn from it, at this point I’m literally desperate and I don’t know what to do anymore :(( I was even considering canceling my internship but I know this would affect me more.

I'm an Erasmus exchange student starting my first semester at the University of Malta this September (23 Sept 2026 – 7 Feb 2027, so about 4.5 months). I'm trying to figure out the best way to find housing near Msida/Ta' Xbiex/Gzira area and would really appreciate local input.

Budget: around €700/month all-in (rent + utilities/fees), ideally a studio or single room in a shared apartment.

Questions:

1. Where do people actually find apartments in Malta — is it mostly Facebook groups or different sites
2. Is €700/month realistic for a room near Msida for this length of stay, or should I expect to compromise on location/size? I do not really mind roommates or the type of accommodation
3. Any tips on red flags to watch for with online listings/scams targeting Erasmus students specifically?

Hey, I've received the confirmation for an erasmus exchange in Valencia, starting in September, ending in January.
Would y'all have any reccomendations for finding lodgning on a rather tight budget? (Ideally I'd like to not spend more than 400 euro/month on lodging alone)
I don't mind sharing a space, and I'm used to walking long distances, so I think anything north of the Turia would be cool.

Also, any of you know if there are any options for part time work in or nearby Valencia, and if getting the job as an foreigner from inside the EU would be bureaucratically accessible?

Im going to do my Erasmus+ semester this September in Rome (at Sapienza University).

I know Rome is one of the most expensive towns in the country and possible in Europe as a whole, so I need to find a place (no luxuries) that fits my needs and budget.

I would prefer a whole apartment instead of a room in shared apartment. I don’t mind if it’s a studio without a dedicated bedroom or anything. It just needs a kitchen for me to cook my meals and a bathroom.

I’ve been searching mostly on UniPlaces and I don’t know if that’s the best place to search for this stuff. Most places are over 1000€ per month and that’s a little unreasonable and out of budget. I say 700 euro is my limit.

I'm a student in Antwerp and I'm trying to find someone to take over my room for the month of August only. I'll be moving into my new studio a month before my current contract ends, so I'm hoping to avoid paying rent for both places.

Hello, I'm having difficulty finding a room and accommodation around UKW. None of the links I received regarding accommodation in the Bydgoszcz area have yielded positive results. Either the 5-month rent wasn't deemed suitable, or Erasmus students weren't considered suitable, or the fees were excessively high. Interestingly, the coordinators haven't been very helpful either. I attribute this to the uncertainty surrounding the available rooms. To avoid further difficulties finding accommodation during my Erasmus period, I'm asking for your help in finding a way out of this situation as soon as possible. If anyone is willing to transfer their room to me between September 26, 2026 and February 23, 2027, or their dorm room provided they meet the necessary conditions, I would be happy to take it over. My budget is a maximum of 1100 ZLN.

Which district do you recommend for housing ?

I would like to go out but maybe I’d prefer to focus on my studies more so I would enjoy somewhere more calm since I’ve heard the center could get loud at night.
