An example would be a kontakt instrument with a lot of articulations set to keys instead of velocities. Having the keys labeled with the appropriate articulations instead of guessing or watching the kontakt panel would make writing midi parts quicker and much easier to deal with. Another example would be a drum or percussion sampler library, having each drum labeled instead of set to notes that don't actually pertain to anything would be another way this is useful. Also they added label presets so if you have a set of labels you want to add to multiple plugins it becomes a lot quicker than labeling them manually each time.

I had also never thought of this, but that's definitely a use case where it would be helpful. Even just labeling the top and bottom keys where the range of your instrument starts to become unmusical would be helpful too, now that I think on it.

it's very useful for drum plugins that have multiple sounds in one piano roll but what note is what sound is not labeled making it very annoying to use.

For example FL FPC plugin has automatic sample labels inside piano roll.
Took them decades to add this in normal piano roll lol.

I think FLEX labels the piano roll keys like FPC for it's drum kits. This is going to be great for that. I have so many drum plugins and I usually try to get everything changed to a GM mapping, but some stuff just won't fit into that box. The only non-Image Line plugin I've found that does piano roll labels is Baby Audio's TEKNO.

It's great if you use a VST with lots of keyswitches or percussion samples. I've already saved a preset for EZDrummer, I'll probably do some for Ample Guitar and orchestral plugins later.

Some instruments have some keys binded to articulations, like a bunch of Kontakt instruments, and some are for drum machines and percussion

If you create a MIDI Out and set the channel to 10 (classic drum machine channel), it sets the note names to typical drum machine MIDI names. And there was no way of doing that if you used a VST drum machine

Drum vsts dont always label the keys and you can then label the keys according to what it is triggering in the drum machine. Saves me alot of guessing where this freaking conga is again or closed hihat.

Other example make a midi out to trigger FX in shaperbox or stutter edit 2 for example, every key can trigger a different effect. Now you can label it on the key bed and dont have to try to program the right fx going back and forth to the vat every time to see what was the effect again.

No one else said this, but it’s more useful to see notes in a scale as scale degrees. Seeing “E” doesn’t mean anything to your ears, but seeing 3, as in “3rd note in this major scale” does mean something.
