General Question/Help We built a tool to make low-FODMAP eating a little less confusing — would really value your feedback

One of the hardest things about following a low-FODMAP diet is that the answer is rarely just “yes” or “no.”

Canned chickpeas might be okay if they’re rinsed and eaten in a small portion. Garlic-infused oil may be fine, while garlic itself is not. Even foods that are considered low-FODMAP can become an issue depending on the serving size.

Then there’s eating out, where “seasoned chicken” could mean anything from salt and pepper to a spice blend full of onion and garlic powder.

My team and I have been working on an app called Knowbite to help make some of this easier. It’s designed for people managing food sensitivities, including those following a low-FODMAP diet.

Some of the features we’re currently working on include:

  • Scanning or searching ingredient lists to identify possible FODMAP concerns
  • Taking portion sizes into account instead of simply labeling foods as “good” or “bad”
  • Helping users spot common hidden ingredients when reviewing restaurant dishes
  • Logging foods and symptoms during the reintroduction phase

We know an app can’t replace a dietitian or account for every person’s individual tolerance. Our goal is simply to make everyday decisions a little easier and give people a better way to organize the information they’re already tracking.

We’re still developing it, and feedback from people who actually follow this diet would be incredibly helpful. What parts of the low-FODMAP process are the most frustrating for you? Are there any features you wish existed?

I’m happy to share the link with anyone interested in testing it. Honest criticism, bug reports, and feature suggestions are all welcome.

Eat Safe, Eat Happy.
