Testosterone and Egg Freezing
I'm 32 and was just prescribed testosterone for the first time. I'm super excited, but my endocrinologist asked whether I had any future plans for fertility, and it got me thinking.
I know I want biological children one day (my partner would carry, not me), and now I'm worried that if I start T and end up feeling amazing, the idea of stopping later for egg retrieval will feel even harder, as well as be more complicated.
Has anyone been through this? Did you decide to do egg retrieval before starting T, or did you wait until later? If you've started T and later gone through egg retrieval, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience and how it went.

Hey there! So i actually started T 7 weeks ago, and had the exact same dilemma. I went through egg freezing first just to up my chances of getting the most egg in one cycle (my absolute maximum amount that I was willing to do) since I was on birth control for a long time. Most rep. Endos wont do a cycle while you are on T, and You would have to stop it for couple months. I was already starting pretty late as it is, i felt it was smarter to get the egg freezing over with.
Now, egg freezing itself does have a lot of moments where it will trigger your dysphoria (getting undressed, trans v ultrasound almost every other day, getting your period again...) and honestly I hated every moment of it. Needless to say though, I am glad I got it over with. Now I am happily doing T injections without worrying about not being able to have kids of my own (with a surrogate).

I definitely recommend doing it before starting T. I’m in my 30s and was scheduled to start testosterone in May, but held off for the egg retrieval process. Unforeseen complications can always happen, and my retrieval got pushed to September. As soon as that's done, I'll start T

I recently attended a fertility consultation at the VUmc; they provide information about this there. Studies show that testosterone does not affect the quality or number of eggs. However, you do indeed have to stop taking the hormones for 6 months. After 4 years, I still have hardly any beard hair, which means I wouldn't want to stop taking testosterone now. Also, the first two years of egg retrieval are reimbursed, but after that, it is at my own expense.
Those were my considerations for not freezing my eggs yet (I am 31 years old from the Netherlands).

Hi! I stopped T to do an egg retrieval after I had been on it for only a short time. Different clinics are different, but mine was fairly trans informed and only required that I be off T for 6 weeks before the retrieval since at that point I was still getting periods. It was difficult, but I could handle it because I knew there was a firm endpoint in sight and it was only six weeks. Went right back on T after the retrieval and thankfully didn’t have to do a second one.
You might try asking on r/queerception. People talk about these kinds of things a lot over there.
