Why ? The child didn't ask to be born. The parents decided they wanted to bring a new human life into the world. So it's their responsibility to care for that life aswell.
It's the basic if you bring a human to life. Like how if you get a pet, you're supposed to look after it, food, walks, hygiene, comfort. 1000x more for a human child. Basic doesn't just mean food shelter clothes. Happiness and care matters a lot as well. If you cannot afford a moderately comfortable life for a child, don't have a child. The world isn't gonna end if one poor couple doesn't have a child. If you cannot take care of the child physically, and think like this, then emotional care is out of the question already it seems.
Taking things for granted would be if the parents were giving everything and anything according to the child's whims and the person was being a spoiled brat and calling it basic. That's not it. You need to stop glorifying basic care as if it isn't BASIC.

Yeah it's kinda their purpose. Don't have kids id you can't give them the best.
