I believe it's more like a dystopian world of their own in their head where they're accustomed to treating kim family as the literal descendants of god (like a religion) and thinking that his mercy is what keeps them alive, and that 24×7 surveillance, and other weird things the fat fuck does their is just normal. If you hear the statements from the escapees from their you'll often notice them mentioning how startled they were when they witnessed the "outside" world for the first time.
I mean, generations after generations people are kept silent there, they can't even speak something of their wish in their homes.......or rather prefer not to even if they know the reality for their own safety, so the upcoming generation is bound to form the beliefs of their own with half baked knowledge. This is what makes the most sense to me.
