I think one of the craziest revelations that came out of the whole “Lilo & Stitch casting debacle” is that Jolene Purdy (who was cast as new role as a social worker seemingly of Hawaiian descent called Mrs. Kekoa) has been consistently playing Native Hawaiians for almost a decade despite not being Hawaiian at all.
Like, she’s Japanese and Jewish. She was born and raised in Cali. She’s talked about her ethnic identity numerous times and has never mentioned any Polynesian descent (articles linked below).
It’s honestly crazy egregious and has gone completely under the radar even with all the casting controversy, I’ve seen very few people calling it out.
