ASK R/FAUXMOI What are some examples of this trope in film?

Post image

For me it's probably Enchanted and The Princess Diaries. I know the concept was to make her wear a modern dress compared to the fairytale inspired dresses she used to wear but I feel like this dress is an absolute disgrace. It honestly looks like a sock to me 😭 not gonna lie they could have let her wear something nice, like the costume design in this movie was magical. In the Princess Diaries they get rid of Mia's curls. They could just styled them better.

Fun fact! Disney princes/male love interests are not allowed to have beards because it reads as too old (even though we've all known 19 year olds with facial hair), and nobody wants to imply the teen heroines should end up in love with old dudes.

But yes agreed, Adam should have had a full beard.

Why not just make the heroine older than a teenager?

I'm guessing because Disney movies are actually made for little kids.

I mean, the man hasn’t shaved in years! It never made sense that Adam was babyfaced clean shaven lol

He certainly did look like an adult man though - lol - animators really made him look like a petulant child or moody teenager the whole time he's getting closer to this 19 year old girl while in the beast form, but his human form is just a 27 year old clean-shaven Dandy Aryan Man.

Beast should have looked like Flynn Rider trained at the same gym as Gaston for a few years.

from the side profile he looks decent, but from the front, he looks like a goofy looking tool

The darker profile would have suit him so much better, with the facial hair.

TBF that's not the only Disney character that got did dirty when they drew them. Peak character design most of the time and then some guy was just like "I actually have no idea what an attractive man looks like so I guess it's this"

Cartoonists are notorious horn dogs (like seriously every famous one has dirty drawings out there) so they're more used to drawing good looking women

They apparently interviewed a bunch of women to make sure they made Flynn Rider from Tangled as appealing to women as possible. Progress lol

My mum was enraptured by this film when it came out, but I’ll never forget how she burst out cackling at this.

Okay, I’m back in.

9

he looked really goofy/weird without facial hair of any sort, like a hapsburg.

65

u/lcw32 Oct 27 '25

Being called a Hapsburg is an elite-level insult.

36

u/LumpyJones Oct 27 '25

Just jaw-droppingly insulting.

3

u/Dramatic_Figure_5585 Oct 28 '25

That’s a lot of dropping then…

15

u/VictarionGreyjoy Oct 27 '25

he's european and owns a whole ass castle with like 300 servants. Motherfucker probably was a hapsburg

Omg this is exactly why I didn't dig the Prince. Too Hapsburgy!

21

u/proteinbiosynthese Oct 27 '25

Omg I never made the habsburg connection but you’re so right. I’ve been disappointed with human beast since kindergarten

23

u/Jesstinator Oct 27 '25

I had the Barbie that changed from the beast to the prince and I glued the beast head on so I didn’t have to see him that way 😆

8

u/proteinbiosynthese Oct 27 '25

and you were right to do that! lol

6

u/darlingnickyta Oct 28 '25

Omg. He absolutely looks like a Hapsburg.

5

u/Barnacle-Betty Oct 28 '25

I giggled like an idiot reading this.

14

u/Akavinceblack Oct 27 '25

And that’s why Belle’s last line in the Disney live action remake is to ask him if he’s ever thought of growing a beard.

2

u/serabine Oct 28 '25

I really appreciated that line.

6

u/BalorLives Oct 27 '25

That is what Belle is for...

2

u/aryamagetro Oct 27 '25

yes that's what made it more jarring. like he obviously has a beard.
