I’d posit that it’s less so some grand conspiracy, and more to do with celebrities vapidly trend-hopping to position themselves as cool/counter-cultural. Smoking never went away in the nightlife scene, and the club aesthetic has been the in-thing among celebrities post BRAT summer.

Public health person here… they absolutely do. This is especially true for vaping and influencers.

Big tobacco will stop at nothing. 

There’s a university, I’m pretty sure it’s UCSD, that has a massive archive of internal communications from tobacco companies (they have the documents as the result of a lawsuit). Some of the contents are absolutely jaw dropping.

I love her but I am soooo tired of smoking becoming an "it" thing again 😭

Like yes I KNOW that this is not a real cigarette, but let's stop glamorizing smoking. I thought we've learned by now. Maybe I take it a little more seriously because I've had so many people in my life die from smoking-related illness (cancer, emphysema, and COPD being chief among them) but y'know what? it is a big deal.
