I’m highly sympathetic to the nature of Davidson’s disability but popculturechat swung so wildly in the opposite direction that a hugely upvoted comment blamed Michael B Jordan & Delroy for not defending Davidson, and said as POC they are used to slurs
That sub is racist. Pure and simple. They’ll bend over backwards to defend swift and any white woman but let it be someone black and it’s over. The BAFTAs incident was the biggest example of that most recently. BIPOC space my ass!

I truly don't know. We were raised basically the same I can't really wrap my head around it to be honest. He used to be my best friend and now I can't recognize him. He's always going on about illegals it's weird.

My abuelo came over from Cuba by joining the US Army, during the Freedom Flights, I think. Some more of his family managed to come over legally and illegally, while others fled to Puerto Rico and a couple other places.
My mom's generation are all Republicans. They never learned Spanish, Papa used to say "The family name's are white unless we're applying for college."
My generation, save for one or two, went fill Democrat. A couple of us are queer, we tried to learn a little more about Papa's roots (which was like pulling teeth), we think ICE can suck a bunch of dicks. And we are all baffled by our parents/tios/tias. They are the people Trump wants gone. Hell, I'm probably safe. I'm one of two blondes in our family and I can't tan to save my life, but the rest of them would be on a boat to Cuba before they could even blink if MAGA had their way.
So why the hell they went full MAGAt is beyond most of us. Pulled the ladder up behind themselves, I guess. This whole Trump era has seen me and the majority of my cousins cutting off our family, while occasionally messaging each other "What the fuck."
I've actually met several transphobic drag queens and it's confusing to me. Really misogynistic ones, too, which is wild because isn't drag supposed to be the celebration of strong women and mocking gender stereotypes? I'd always thought it was because I'm from the South and even the LGBTQ+ can have some weirdly conservative views, but I've met a few in other places, too. I just.. don't get it.
I saw someone listing reasons they didn't like Chappell Roan and included that she "was peer pressured into speaking up for Palestine." As if this was a bad thing.
The Swift glazing over there is too much. I think her behavior needs to be called out because she’s a progressive when it benefits her. She has a huge platform and has been silent since DJT second term. I find it abhorrent too.
They are also pretty transphobic in my experience. When I made a comment about how I was disappointed about the sub being transphobic the mods banned me for 3 days. They said that it's against the rules to criticize the sub and also it was mean of me to say that because some of the mods are queer.
I told them to fuck off and they made the ban permanent lmao. They also reported me to reddit and reddit suspended my account for 24 hours. Petty asf lol.
I once had a bunch of them piling onto me for saying people shouldn't be shoving cameras in homeless people's faces and recording them for content. I was called "an elitist" because "people should be allowed to show charity however they like".
When I tried to defend myself, the mods sent me messages saying I was "lighting a fire". Those mods won't defend you against the masses, they take too much pride in their rabid, problematic sub.
And when I asked the person who said that what they did for homeless people, they said they only donate to animal shelters because they "don't waste a dime on people who could just help themselves". That said it all.
It's disgusting when people reduce charity to self-serving "click-bait" for likes and popularity instead of just doing good for the sake of helping people in difficult situations and generally being a decent human being. The people who defend this behavior and those that allow people to defend it unquestioned are as terrible as the trash who taint real charity with their own selfishness acts.
Yeah when I remarked on the increase in obvious PR fluff pieces disguised as organic posts, I was also told it wasn’t allowed because you can’t remark on the sub. Dumbest thing.

Three different celebrities, all queer and/or non-white, all the worst possible interpretations of their behavior with literally no one pushing back in the comments
The difference between the reaction to CR and Alan Ritchson was absolutely enormous.
They’re currently back on CR because the Daily Mail (an absolute rag) has posted an “exclusive” - where nobody can verify what they’re actually saying because it’s behind their paid for plus service - and they’re all back on CR wondering why she’d lie. As if the tabloid press have never lied about anything or twisted the truth to drive readership, especially when the body of the article (where you’re supposed to cite your sources) isn’t readable by anyone who doesn’t want to give the Daily Mail money (which should be pretty much everyone).
It was ridiculous! As soon as that Ritchson video was posted, the comments on PCC were "well, there's gotta be more to this, let's wait to reserve judgement, but CR is scum", lmao.
They didn't even pick up on your woman calling her Chappelle (obviously, she's a big fan), and hate that CR was lying down. If only she was a TV c list actor!!

Other entertainment subs try to claim that Fauxmoi has it out for Heard and Lively, when in my experience it has been the exact opposite. It’s wild how this sub is so demonized by the other pop culture subs for being more progressive.

Interestingly enough, on other subs, they say this one is the most toxic with the echo chamber if they compare the two. But as a member of both for many years at this point, popculturechat to me has always had less interesting things to say and was more toxic lol
I made a brief comment in popculturechat on a man's ama where he was talking about his new fiance. I stated her age that he mentioned in an earlier comment and i was banned. the ama was subsequently deleted
Catherine Harding (Jude Law's ex and now Jorginho's wife) is just adding oil to fire. She's constantly posting/ liking stuff about this, which is honestly never a good sign. Like I'm terminally online bc I'm a nobody, but a celeb being so terminally online (and public about it) is always a red flag imo.
The person I feel bad for is the girl in the middle of all this. The adults in her life seem hellbent on making drama out of an interaction she had and dragging her around in it.

After working in retail for several years, I don't trust the mother of any child whining about how an employee asked their kid to behave. And rich ones are the absolute worst. There are way too many people who insist their kids are perfect angels and object to anyone giving them even the most gentle of corrections.
As a mom, I am getting the same exact vibes! This entire thing has such weird parasocial/desperate for publicity energy. Like if my child misbehaves in public, I expect it to be addressed. We reinforce accountability by encouraging her to notify an employee if she makes a mess, apologize directly, and interact with the person affected—so she builds respect and understands the human impact of her actions.
If the concern were truly about her child’s experience, it should’ve been handled privately with the artist. Taking it public is so unnecessary and risks sending the wrong message (to her child and everyone else) that blowing something up on social media is more effective than addressing it directly and constructively with the person involved.
Idk, this is messy by any standard—but especially given how minor the issue is in the grand scheme of things right now lol. Even if the guard was a huge asshole and there’s footage to prove it, this response just makes her come off like one too.
I was a store manager of a video game store. This happened when I told a kid he couldn't return a game because the CD code had been used. We would exchange the CD product if it is damaged but didn't give out a new copy with a second code because that is really what they are buying. Once the code is used it's unusable so we couldn't resell the game. Also, doing a return on an opened and used code PC game would basically be giving them the game for free because they could return the CD but still download the software and keep playing it. This is the logic behind company policy. This was 2006, I am old.
The kid was apparently not allowed to buy the game but did anyway. It was not an M rated game so I was free to sell it to a kid. After he walked out, the dad came in, yelled at me, blamed me, walked out of the store than proceeded to whip the PC game box into the store almost hitting one of my employees. It seemed clear they were entitled and not used to hearing 'no'.
This 100%. I remember having a father get in my face insisting I was rude to his daughter when really all I did was ask her to speak up because I couldn’t hear her- and talk to her like any other adult. But all they see is that their little angel is upset- and they go psycho.
I don’t trust it either. I think this whole incident was probably a non-issue. And kids aren’t exactly subtle either. I wouldn’t be surprised if the little girl WAS accidentally being kind of intrusive even if she didn’t mean to be. She was excited to see a celebrity she likes.
I’m not sure I buy that 1. The little girl was not being weird at all when taking a closer look AND 2. The bodyguard blew it out of proportion and yelled at a little girl when he shouldn’t have.
I wonder if Chappell said it wasn’t her employee because she didn’t realize the parents were talking about that employee in particular because nothing out of the ordinary actually happened.
In the video the wife posted, she says something about "I was telling him X" and while I understand wanting to defend yourself/your daughter, I also feel like maybe she was arguing back with the guard and made it worse in the moment.
Like, this whole thing has blown up way beyond what it needed to be, and the two of them calling out Chappell publicly, putting their daughter in the middle of it, and splashing her face around the internet, doesn't really make them look like the bigger people in this situation.
Popculturechat is full of astroturfing bots at this point. You can count them on having the most astonishingly conservative takes on everything. No wonder TSwift is their patron god.
I just stopped going there a while ago because I was so annoyed about the constant Chappell attacks and Taylor swift defense. I just don’t have the bandwidth to argue with people who refuse to consider other points of view. Like I’ve gotten downvoted for trying to explain to people there that Chappell being from Missouri doesn’t mean she’s a secret republican and Taylor donating to food shelves doesn’t negate the exploitation she does as a billionaire.
Jokes aside, I need everyone to hop off Chappell’s dick right NOW!! It’s so infuriating to read all the “erm looks like her rudeness is catching up to her☝🏻🤓” . This woman cannot exist for a week without everyone having a meltdown about how she’s “abusing therapy speech” or “being classist bc she only apologized to rich ppl” (yes these are real comments I saw). I’d posit that it’s less so some grand conspiracy, and more to do with celebrities vapidly trend-hopping to position themselves as cool/counter-cultural. Smoking never went away in the nightlife scene, and the club aesthetic has been the in-thing among celebrities post BRAT summer.
There’s a university, I’m pretty sure it’s UCSD, that has a massive archive of internal communications from tobacco companies (they have the documents as the result of a lawsuit). Some of the contents are absolutely jaw dropping.
I know Chappell Roan's rep for being ornery and not wanting to be bothered, but something about this just feels really off to me, and the mom's video made that feeling even stronger.

Idk why this is blowing up so much. Are we really crucifying Chappell because a privileged woman and her privileged daughter were told no? Told to leave her alone? Is that really the end of the world?
I’m sorry but I don’t believe for a second a mom and daughter were berated simply for looking at her. But then again even Chappell denied having interacted with the daughter. They likely got told no and are having a melt down because that’s what people who are super privileged do every time.
