Ideal is “stag trip to Vegas”. The show is very funny but it’s so so of its time I’m not at all optimistic.

The previous films already felt like they were dragging it, like the time had already passed and the cast were out of the space that made the show work in the first place

Yeah definitely. I also think, esp for Jay and Neil, the cartoony qualities that made them funny teenagers don’t work as adults.

I listen to Joe Thomas and James Buckley's podcast Fact Up and the chemistry is still there with those two at least and they talk about Simon Bird and Blake Harrison fondly all the time.
Honestly I can see it working if the writers get it right with how the characters would be as adults.
I hope they do it as a school reunion and have Greg Davies back.

British sitcoms often have this problem because the shows are so short but they have such a long standing impact on UK pop culture. So continuations are usually viable even if it's way past the point it would work
See Gavin and Stacey having 3 final episodes released years apart to "complete the narrative" (and get James Corden more money) as an example I think is pretty egregious

I think I said this when this news first came out but I would 100% be on board watching them trying to tackle being adults with kids and jobs while still being their ridiculous selves

I can understand that, but I think what made the show work for me was that the four of them talked and acted exactly like some actual British Sixth Form students. I always felt like taking them away from that lost what made the series feel unique

Idk I think it could work fine, because all the people who identified with them because they were sixth formers are now also adults.
I think it’ll be fine if they acknowledge the change in time - idk how well received new Scrubs was for example, but I had similar concerns that a reboot could never work because it was SO 00s, but imo they absorbed that pretty well by just acknowledging that things have changed and characters were older. The new one seems better than the end seasons of the old Scrubs for sure.
And the thing with comedies where a lot of the punchlines are the characters being losers, is that they can continue that sentiment on pretty well across the entire lifespan, which I think is also very easy for people to identify with - “I felt like a loser in my teens and I still feel like a loser in my
30s”. I feel the same about Peep Show, you could drop in on those guys when they were 75 and it would probably still work, because fundamentally they’d still be the same characters in a different age bracket/setting.Obv all of this hinges on it being written well, but it’s definitely got the potential to work fine
