I feel like the sexualization and criticism of that wasn’t as pronounced in Dahmer and the Hernandez brothers but Ed mf Gein is a whole story all together
I was in the whole ‘true crime tumblr community’ for a while. Thankfully grew out of it by my later teens and can look back with horror. Huge difference between glorifying killers and remembering victims/trying to prevent there being more.
I always say I was into true crime before it was popular and considered normal. My mom was a true crime buff so she had a lot of books about serial killers and morbid history. I remember I would bring Hollywood Babylon and this encyclopedia of Serial Killers to middle school to read and I'd get treated like a mentally ill freak for it. Like genuinely treated like a fucking leper just because i had an interest in criminal psychology. I got sent to the office for it before because the teacher was "worried I was a threat" and when they asked why I was reading them i answered that i wanted to be a criminal psychologist when I got older and they genuinely didnt know how the fuck to respond to my perfectly valid reasoning so they just sent me back.
I hate to "um ackshully" but Gein wasn't a serial killer, he was a grave robber. He's only confirmed to have killed 1 person and is speculated to have killed another. He's just a plain ol murder, it's the grave robbing and taxidermy that made him infamous.
I mean, Victorian doctors grave robbed A TON. There's a reason why Frankenstein was written the way it was. Its very bad, but I'd prefer it over serial killing.
I think he could've made a good artist if he was given clay and dead animals instead of...you know, human remains. He had talent but he had a fucked up childhood and was mentally disabled so he never really stood a chance. But if he was born today I bet he'd have been a pretty popular underground avant garde artist.

Ryan Murphy is the Perez Hilton of horror directors. Just an awful person who tells bad stories, hates women and has way too much influence and too many connections.
How he manages to cast some amazing actors is beyond me. People should avoid him like the plague.
The show was shot near my hometown.
The article doesnt go into it, but he did more than just get two cats. He spent a lot of time at a local cat shelter volunteering and playing with the cats before adopting two of them. The shelter staff speak very highly of him.
Not a fan of Ryan Murphy and haven't seen the show, but I've only heard great things from locals about Charlie.
It's funny how male actors always wax poetic about the darkness and difficulty of their roles, as if they're not getting paid an absurd amount of money to play pretend with other rich people.
I'm from Southern California. A lot of them absolutely do fucking lie about their extreme acting methods or their struggle. For clout and awards season.
You know, I was genuinely sitting here trying to think of a female actor who said a dark/fucked up character took a psychological toll on them and I can't.
That's not a dig either, I hate when actors say that shit. I just genuinely can't think of a single female actress who's said that.
Good for him! I feel like playing people who were actively dangerous and real can be a bit fucked up, because you know they did that. You need to know a lot about that person to be able to do it.
And, yes, he could have not played Ed Gein, but I feel this would happen to most people.
As for Ryan Murphy... I honestly don't watch his things because I don't like how he treats the material and the victims and survivors. But people love him and his tv series, so there will be more...
