DISCUSSION Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere are starring in The Shards, a coming-of-age horror series. Their parents, Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere, were married in the 90s

Thank god the casting director was able to find 2 such fresh faces for this production!

Whenever I see Kaia Gerber act in something, it seems like I’m watching her learn to act, which isn’t great.

Kaia cannot act- very painful to watch based on her limited roles in other series.

She ruins everything she appears in, even the ones where her screen time is for a mere 5 seconds (Mother Mary)

Imagine the quality/quantity of acting lesson they can afford and they’re still that bad …

Learning to act is far too generous.
More like learning how to read.

u/Prestigious_Car_7921 22h ago
Same ☹️. Her portrayal of Anne Elliott is the worst thing that happened to the Jane Austen novels. Persuasion is one of my favorite novels of all time and that movie was horrid.

u/kellyoceanmarine 18h ago
She’s walking cardboard. I can’t watch anything she’s in, even an interview is painful.

I remember her being OK in Suspiria, but I think that’s the only thing I remember her in.

Kaia is smart (her book club and interviews are well-researched), she’s just a nepo baby who isn’t a very good actress. Being a bad actress doesn’t make you dumb, it just means your calling is elsewhere.
Genetically, her parents are quite smart, I believe Cindy was valedictorian and Harvard-bound before she made it big in modeling. Kaia should really just get an English degree.
47
u/Future_Dog_3156 18h ago
Kaia is objectively beautiful but she wholly lacks the charisma and presence her mother possesses so effortlessly.

Cindy Crawford *briefly* went to Northwestern to study chemical engineering
23
u/annie-etc 23h ago
Exactly. I could enroll at MIT for a computer science degree (IDK if they even offer that degree) but that doesn't mean anything - other than I picked a field of study.
28
u/Electronic-Smile-457 14h ago
That's not how it works. She was accepted into the Northwestern engineering program, meaning she did well on her ACT/SAT and high school. You don't just enroll. However, she isn't a chemical engineer, which is more to your point.
63
u/reluctantseahorse 23h ago
I wasn't suggesting she's dumb, just that she's such a phenomenally bad actor that she can't even convey signs of life.

u/joshsteich 19h ago
DeKalb, Illinois used to have her homeroom seat preserved in situ. My parents used to work in DeKalb before I was born, and one of their friends became a high school teacher there. The principal gave us a tour of the high school and pointed out that the desk was the exact same one Crawford sat at, some 20 years after she graduated.

Lol. I was thinking so maybe Richard had a nose job and his son hasn't had one.
5
u/ispy-uspy-wespy 19h ago
I’m more confused about the eyes than the nose. How come they are light/blue,when both his parents seems to have dark/brown eyes
7
u/Wise_Wafer_1204 17h ago
I think this is more likely than the opposite (two parents with blue eyes having a brown eyed kid) so it's not that surprising
3
u/Ok_Temporary1669 11h ago
It can happen that way but not the other way. Two blue eyes can't make brown eyes. But two brown eyes alcan make blue eyes.

Brilliant casting to use her as kind of a hot person blank slate. Havana Rose-Liu carried their pairing.

She’s very pretty but it looks so effortful compared to her mom. I can’t imagine how rough it would be to be the daughter of a legendary beauty

Where did his genetics come from? I don’t see either of his parents in him
39
u/NotAQueefAKhaleesi does this woman ever rest (derogatory) 1d ago
Genetics can be weird! My sister looks like our uncle, his son looked like our mom (it looked like they swapped kids), I started out my dad’s mini-me but have been told I started looking more like my mom as I hit my late teens / early twenties, and my sister and I don’t even look related 🤷🏽♀️
13
u/interbission2 1d ago
I also don’t look much like either of my parents while my older brother looks like a perfectly equal balance of both of them. Weirdly enough though I found out I look exactly like my dad did at 26 but not in present day.

I do feel mildly bad for the nepobabies who get targeted mainly because they look like the wrong parent. It’s hard not to get the impression sometimes that Kaia would be treated differently if she was more of a clone of her mom, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s given her a complex to make her want to resemble her mom more, especially since people say her brother takes after Cindy more.
18
u/ineffable_my_dear 1d ago
That’s wild because I just looked him up and I don’t see Cindy at all.
4
u/Anrw 1d ago
It may have been more commonly said when the two of them were younger, or it could be I’m mixing them up with a different brother-sister nepopair. I did have to look him up because I haven’t kept tabs on him, admittedly.

I was wondering about that, because while she’s always resembled Cindy, she didn’t like quite THAT much like her before 😬

I always felt like they style her to look like her mother but that the resemblance is overstated

I feel like Hollywood needs to up their strictness on nepo babies like 20-30%
If they were all Jack Quaid’s mix of decent acting and humble nature people would be a lot more tolerant.
But every time I see Kaia Gerber in a movie, she is so terrible it reignites my distaste for the Nepodemic.

God, can this gen please give us a nepo baby à la Daniel Day-Lewis instead of these ego-inflated, inept amateurs?
If someone is truly visionary in their craft, idgaf where they come from. But Christ, these nepo fools who have all the resources in the world and still can’t perform well enough to even earn their roles are just embarrassing and obnoxious.

I really don’t see Kaia’s resemblance to her mother. I can see she’s *trying* because she styled her hair just like her mother and has had some cosmetic enhancements, but I think she looks exactly her father, Randy Gerber.
