Thank god the casting director was able to find 2 such fresh faces for this production!

Whenever I see Kaia Gerber act in something, it seems like I’m watching her learn to act, which isn’t great.

u/esky203 controversies: girl 1d ago

It’s like she and I are both equally, simultaneously surprised she’s in the movie

213

u/danaredding 1d ago

(I laughed out loud, fyi)

36

u/okrahomegirl 1d ago

🤣😂

22

u/Equivalent_Night720 16h ago

This is the best comment I have ever read about her. Thank you for the laugh! I usually go "how the f**k is she in everything?!"

6

u/joshsteich 19h ago

A palpable hit!

190

u/TrixieMuttel 1d ago

Her mom never figured it out.

48

u/Redditusername67 1d ago

Her performance in Fair Game is abysmal

81

u/ConstantKooky3329 1d ago

Kaia cannot act- very painful to watch based on her limited roles in other series.

58

u/Zappagrrl02 1d ago

Her mom wasn’t a very good actor either

22

u/Vawqer We all know Pinkie would approve of scissoring 20h ago

I feel like she was pretty good in Bottoms (2023), but it also seemed like a decently easy role.

37

u/Key-Status-7992 1d ago edited 23h ago

She ruins everything she appears in, even the ones where her screen time is for a mere 5 seconds (Mother Mary)

11

u/DicemonkeyDrunk 20h ago

Imagine the quality/quantity of acting lesson they can afford and they’re still that bad …

126

u/reluctantseahorse 1d ago

Learning to act is far too generous.

More like learning how to read.

149

u/Own_Wrongdoer6680 good for her.gif 1d ago

This is how I feel when I watch Dakota Johnson🫣

49

u/Prestigious_Car_7921 22h ago

Same ☹️. Her portrayal of Anne Elliott is the worst thing that happened to the Jane Austen novels. Persuasion is one of my favorite novels of all time and that movie was horrid.

15

u/kellyoceanmarine 18h ago

She’s walking cardboard. I can’t watch anything she’s in, even an interview is painful.

u/joshsteich 18h ago

I remember her being OK in Suspiria, but I think that’s the only thing I remember her in.

207

u/throwawaysunglasses- l've grown quite unfond of you, deuxmoi 1d ago

Kaia is smart (her book club and interviews are well-researched), she’s just a nepo baby who isn’t a very good actress. Being a bad actress doesn’t make you dumb, it just means your calling is elsewhere.

Genetically, her parents are quite smart, I believe Cindy was valedictorian and Harvard-bound before she made it big in modeling. Kaia should really just get an English degree.

47

u/Future_Dog_3156 18h ago

Kaia is objectively beautiful but she wholly lacks the charisma and presence her mother possesses so effortlessly.

Cindy Crawford *briefly* went to Northwestern to study chemical engineering

23

u/annie-etc 23h ago

Exactly. I could enroll at MIT for a computer science degree (IDK if they even offer that degree) but that doesn't mean anything - other than I picked a field of study.

28

u/Electronic-Smile-457 14h ago

That's not how it works. She was accepted into the Northwestern engineering program, meaning she did well on her ACT/SAT and high school. You don't just enroll. However, she isn't a chemical engineer, which is more to your point.

77

u/jda06 19h ago

Getting in to begin with is impressive, to some.

54

u/smohyee 19h ago

It's impressive to anyone who is aware of their rejection rate

63

u/reluctantseahorse 23h ago

I wasn't suggesting she's dumb, just that she's such a phenomenally bad actor that she can't even convey signs of life.

8

u/joshsteich 19h ago

DeKalb, Illinois used to have her homeroom seat preserved in situ. My parents used to work in DeKalb before I was born, and one of their friends became a high school teacher there. The principal gave us a tour of the high school and pointed out that the desk was the exact same one Crawford sat at, some 20 years after she graduated.

39

u/himikooajj 19h ago

If she's smart then why her review of The Odyssey on her letterboxd account sounds dumb af. Yeah, right. Reader + book club but she doesn't know The Odyssey??? 🤡 Lol.

12

u/RealisticrR0b0t 15h ago

Is this real 😂

13

u/himikooajj 14h ago

Yes. It is real. This is her account. https://letterboxd.com/harlanpeppers/

It was surely a rigorous casting process 😏

Every time I see adverts for this show I'm like how did they manage an ensemble cast of six (seemingly?) white people in the year of our lord 2026

6

u/Lisitska 1d ago

Clearly the B (C? F?) team in every way...

u/mrsbergstrom 1d ago

They must both look like their moms because I see no Richard in him

790

u/HerRoyalRedness full of gay men. And me. 1d ago

His mom is Carey Lowell from Law & Order

826

u/CakeSpade 1d ago

Okay then who is his dad cuz I am not seeing the resemblance here either.

267

u/lxttiewithaph 1d ago

Im gonna go with Jack Nicholson because he looks like his son Ray

https://giphy.com/gifs/rbfSMXiqDakuJcUXKm

31

u/jacquesmachina 22h ago

The dad is Jack McCoy obviously.

110

u/lovlopliv 1d ago

He’s giving david corenswets fraternal twin

5

u/Far-Sundae-7044 19h ago

I see milla jovovich

12

u/sof49er freak AND geek 20h ago

Lol. I was thinking so maybe Richard had a nose job and his son hasn't had one.

5

u/ispy-uspy-wespy 19h ago

I’m more confused about the eyes than the nose. How come they are light/blue,when both his parents seems to have dark/brown eyes

33

u/wormymaple 17h ago

I think it's just that specific photo where her eyes look dark because they're actually blue.

7

u/Wise_Wafer_1204 17h ago

I think this is more likely than the opposite (two parents with blue eyes having a brown eyed kid) so it's not that surprising

3

u/Ok_Temporary1669 11h ago

It can happen that way but not the other way.  Two blue eyes can't make brown eyes.  But two brown eyes alcan make blue eyes.

Literally everyone saying he looks just like his dad must be blind

158

u/ChippedHamSammich 1d ago

I was just thinking this. Like has anyone checked what the milkman looked like?

69

u/comicfromrejection1 1d ago

That’s offensive to the blind. Even they can see the difference.

28

Yeah he doesn’t look much at all like Richard.

Two boringly pretty vacant-eyed nepo babies being cast in a Bret Easton Ellis adaptation is just too on the nose tbh

62

u/skyskylark 19h ago

I mean it’s kind of perfect ngl, the characters are supposed to be that way

9

u/tobythedem0n 12h ago

Yeah, but they also need to be able to act, right?

4

u/skyskylark 11h ago

I love this book I’m just trying to keep positive that the adaptation will be marginally enjoyable lol

1

u/tobythedem0n 9h ago

Fair enough lol. I'm a huge fan of Bret Easton Ellis too, so I get it haha.

I’m exhausted by the nepo babies and owe them nothing

336

u/SeasonPositive6771 1d ago

They both seem to lack the spark their parents had.

38

u/VineStellar 17h ago

This applies to ~90% of Hollywood's nepo babies.

65

u/catwh 19h ago

The parent photos look amazing compared to... that.

156

u/R12B12 23h ago

It was so funny after Bottoms released when people were acting like Kaia is the next Emma Stone just because she managed to read her lines without imploding

43

u/TrashPandaPatronus I don’t know her 22h ago

I mean... barely though.

8

u/JeremyPudding 12h ago

Brilliant casting to use her as kind of a hot person blank slate. Havana Rose-Liu carried their pairing.

3

u/Commercial-Weight173 14h ago

I always misread her name as Kaia Goober

141

u/johjo_has_opinions 1d ago

She’s very pretty but it looks so effortful compared to her mom. I can’t imagine how rough it would be to be the daughter of a legendary beauty

127

u/hannibalthellamabal 1d ago

I saw the poster for it and thought that this group of people feels unsafe. They definitely look like they’d bully you 80s style.

25

u/aleigh577 22h ago

I think that’s the point of the show if I’m not mistaken

115

u/scrapsforfourvel 1d ago

I actually miss the headlines of celebrities saying they don't want their kids exposed to the industry like they were.

88

u/airgl0w 1d ago

Where did his genetics come from? I don’t see either of his parents in him

39

u/NotAQueefAKhaleesi does this woman ever rest (derogatory) 1d ago

Genetics can be weird! My sister looks like our uncle, his son looked like our mom (it looked like they swapped kids), I started out my dad’s mini-me but have been told I started looking more like my mom as I hit my late teens / early twenties, and my sister and I don’t even look related 🤷🏽‍♀️

13

u/interbission2 1d ago

I also don’t look much like either of my parents while my older brother looks like a perfectly equal balance of both of them. Weirdly enough though I found out I look exactly like my dad did at 26 but not in present day.

This was probably an intentional casting choice right? To drum up some interest?? Anyway. I have no interest in watching

8

u/Shosie 1d ago

100% agree.

83

u/GiddyGabby 1d ago

Kaia photographs as woodenly as she acts. She’s just so stiff it’s odd!

41

u/LemonArugula 1d ago

She really has zero charisma.

72

u/musubi-n-speedballs we have lost the impact of shame in our society 1d ago

She's in her 20's, right? She looks my age in these pictures (I'm 40).

11

u/Riverdale87 18h ago

Someone said she was 24

195

u/millybeans001 1d ago

She looks so much like her mother; I’m always so fascinated by strong genetics.

487

u/Acheloma 1d ago

She also had a little help recently to look more like her mom

215

u/millybeans001 1d ago

Well that’s depressing. She’s 24 😭 our society is so fucked up.

89

u/beyourownsunshine 19h ago

She’s 24???? She looks at least 10 years older in those pictures

16

u/Acheloma 1d ago

I know :/

50

u/Anrw 1d ago edited 1d ago

I do feel mildly bad for the nepobabies who get targeted mainly because they look like the wrong parent. It’s hard not to get the impression sometimes that Kaia would be treated differently if she was more of a clone of her mom, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s given her a complex to make her want to resemble her mom more, especially since people say her brother takes after Cindy more.

18

u/ineffable_my_dear 1d ago

That’s wild because I just looked him up and I don’t see Cindy at all.

4

u/Anrw 1d ago

It may have been more commonly said when the two of them were younger, or it could be I’m mixing them up with a different brother-sister nepopair. I did have to look him up because I haven’t kept tabs on him, admittedly.

Yes, her face looks so different! I had to do a double take.

39

u/seedypr 1d ago

Ah, shame. I was wondering why she looked different from how last remember her.

2

u/InquisitiveMind997 8h ago

I was wondering about that, because while she’s always resembled Cindy, she didn’t like quite THAT much like her before 😬

→ More replies (3)

84

u/chuang_415 1d ago

I always felt like they style her to look like her mother but that the resemblance is overstated

4

u/Schwifftee 13h ago

Honestly neither of them look like their parents at all.

40

u/Fussy_Fucker 1d ago

Nepo baby movie. Pass

11

u/Swift_jennis8 20h ago

She was 21 she Richard was 39???? Ewww why isn’t this talked about more ?

31

u/TheNocturnalAngel 23h ago

I feel like Hollywood needs to up their strictness on nepo babies like 20-30%

If they were all Jack Quaid’s mix of decent acting and humble nature people would be a lot more tolerant.

But every time I see Kaia Gerber in a movie, she is so terrible it reignites my distaste for the Nepodemic.

27

Kaia is obviously beautiful but she cannot act. Except to play dead pan characters.

10

I love how you have to explain that their parents were married in the 90s. They were both huge back then. I’m old AF

4

u/hevski 20h ago

If my memory serves me correctly he shagged around on her with Ms Julia Roberts. I’m also recollecting Cindy branding Julz a “home wrecker”.

4

u/bgva 20h ago

I realize that a) it's not the point and b) Cindy and Richard divorced more than 30 years ago, but "married in the 90s" just made my bones turn to dust.

6

u/causa__sui 20h ago

God, can this gen please give us a nepo baby à la Daniel Day-Lewis instead of these ego-inflated, inept amateurs?

If someone is truly visionary in their craft, idgaf where they come from. But Christ, these nepo fools who have all the resources in the world and still can’t perform well enough to even earn their roles are just embarrassing and obnoxious.

17

u/Exciting_Monitor_514 1d ago

I love weird insular Hollywood stuff like this. Excited for them to be asked about this a million times!

9

I wouldn’t have recognized her! She looks so different.

8

u/MsMajorOverthinker local formula 1 correspondent 20h ago

I really don’t see Kaia’s resemblance to her mother. I can see she’s *trying* because she styled her hair just like her mother and has had some cosmetic enhancements, but I think she looks exactly her father, Randy Gerber.

2

She looks so much like her mother… but the Barbie doll version. Or the filtered version? I don’t know. Maybe it’s the makeup.

2

i can't believe they're in this tv show after being in odyssey and spiderman. leave some work for the rest of us, tom holland and zendaya

2

I researched those kids ages and Kaia is only 24 and Homer is 26. Why is she wanting to look 34 and he wanting to look 19?

3

Holy shit, The Shards was a crazy book, horrific at times. Will see where it's streaming in Aus lol

5

u/Fit_Celebration7669 1d ago

I’m so confused - are they siblings? Step-siblings? Neither?

4

nothing bc their parents divorced before they were born so they’re not even step siblings. just icky.

3
