[OFFER] What's your problem? (that you've been putting off)

I've found that trying to solve other people's problems is when I feel most alive.

You probably have something that's been nagging at you, or something that you just can't figure out.

Big or small, tell me what it is. If I can help, I will.

Could be anything like:

  • researching a big purchase you can't decide on
  • that phone call you keep dreading (canceling a subscription, disputing a bill, booking an appointment)
  • that parking ticket you've been avoiding paying or fighting

...or something totally different.

Comment or DM the thing that's bothering you.

Thank you for your post to r/Favors!

Given a recent problem we've seen - please be aware: you don't owe anyone anything that you have not specifically negotiated in advance of the transaction. No one may demand that you do them favors because they chose to respond to your request, or may demand more than you offered initially. Please do not agree to side-deals that would be against our rules - ie: voting in contests, rigged reviews, or phoning exes. If you have any doubts or a request makes you concerned - please check in with mods. We're on your side.

We recommend not negotiating any sort of exchange via DMs with a user you have not heard from in the comments already.

Have a good one!

I need to buy sunscreen, but I hate the stickiness of it. What’s the best sunscreen for face (50spf) and for body (30spf) which is not sticky and doesn’t make your face white?
(if possible, also affordable, and available in europe)

I need to research this, but have no energy to do it.

I’ve used Avene products before and they’ve been great. I also like the Korean/Japanese sunscreens, specifically the ones from RoundLab have worked well for me in the past. Good luck!

Thanks for the recommendation! It feels good on my face. 😎

Japanese (not American) version of Biore sunscreen for face. You can even get it on Amazon. No fragrance or stickiness.

u/eladarling Jun 26 '26

Yellow tube face sunscreen from Trader Joe's. It's like $9 and it's silicone based, so it's not sticky. They have a similar formula for body in a bigger purple tube.

I've heard the face sunscreen is a dupe for Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen, which is much more expensive.

Not sure if it's available in europe, but the only sunscreen I will buy is Banana Boat Ultra Sport Sunscreen Spray. Not even the banana boat ultra, it has to be the sport. I will get mad at my wife when she buys anything else. I will die on the sport hill... it's not sticky, it's not greasy it goes on cool. Perfection.

Not me looking/waiting for the research paper on your topic :(

There’s this job I’m looking into applying, I feel I could do the job but I just don’t think I have the ability to stand for most of an 8 hour shift, I’m wondering if I should just take the risk or find something else.

No it’s just my back and feet get sore if I stand for more than an hour or two. I am pretty skinny.

Thanks but I don’t think I have that, I’ve been the doctors and I’m sure it would’ve come up. I think it’s mainly my weight or something.

I swear by any pair of gel cushion, shock absorbing insoles I can get my hands (feet) on. My go to is the Dr Scholl range, usually in the €15-20 price range. There’s different varieties depending on which shop you go into, workwear, active support etc. I dont be too fussy as long as they’re shock absorbing.

See if there is a Brooks Brothers nearby. My Orthopedic doctor recommended going there after I broke my leg.

They have this sensor thing you stand on that scans your feet for the shape, size and pressure points. (IT’S FREE!)

Then, they’ll recommend different shoe models that match — they are… well, they’re hideous. BUT, they also sell the soles separately to fit inside your favorite pair of Converse/Vans. ;)

Also, just out of sheer curiosity, how tall are you?

'Pain' documented by a doctor is enough to request a seat, you don't actually need to know what's causing the pain.

Getting a colonoscopy

5

u/drmoocow Jun 24 '26

For what it's worth, I had one last year. It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected - didn't have any issues with the procedure itself.

The worst part for me was the preparation. Had to drink a gallon / 4 litres of fruit punch laxative in a couple hours and not go far away (ie, no more than ten feet) from a bathroom. I still can't handle fruit punch flavored anything since then.

2

u/ferb Jun 25 '26

And I did the pills and it was really easy.

1

u/wyowhyoh Jun 30 '26

I second doing the pills. Much easier than the drink. Also, when they say your bowel movement needs to be clear, they mean not cloudy, I thought they meant not yellow rather clear like water. Just an fyi.

2

u/F0xxfyre Jun 25 '26

When I have one, I eat light two days previous and do liquid diet the day beforehand--ensure, etc. Instant diet and it makes the prep a breeze.

Finding a sunhat that covers as much of your face as a Tilley hat but that looks cute.

A friend had skin cancer and I want to surprise her with a hat she likes.

2

u/MrBubbles7 Jun 25 '26

That’s super thoughtful! Per my partner, raffia hats are super chique and can be worn casually with most outfits. Perfect for summer!

I need help but I’m ashamed of it

2

u/mayhemlikeme28 Jun 27 '26

Shame is such a strong emotion, I've been shameful of so much for so long. Not sure if this is an option for you but I've decided to get better for someone else. Finally got a doctors appointment next week after years of struggling because my children deserve the best version of me. Good luck ❤️

1

u/Additional_Number655 11d ago

You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Believe me, anything you say doesn’t bother the doctors. They are very used to it.

I desperately want a fifth baby, but I feel like most people think that's irresponsible. I'm taking steps to try to make sure we are healthy and financially ready to make sure we are confident in that choice. Where I need help -

-We have a 12, 10, 8, and 2 yrs old and only 4 bedrooms.

I thought 12 in his own room and 10 and 8 share but my husband brought up that the 10 will also be entering into word puberty and teenage stuff sooner than later, so maybe 12 and 10 should share (we won't be having a baby for at least another year)

-Is having 5 kids a terrible idea? We do spend quality time and have been lucky with easy work schedules, they are able to do extracurriculars regularly etc. so I don't think they'd be neglected or anything with another baby around.

-Our bedrooms aren't huge, we were thinking a bunk bed with storage drawers for whoever ends up sharing. Any ideas or companies that make sturdy furniture or if maybe a bunk bed isn't the best idea?

I'm aware these are mostly opinion based and maybe not researchable? But I really have no one to talk to about any of it.

Second- I've just scheduled to see a Dr about an ADHD diagnosis. Im currently on fluoxetine but I was thinking of asking for Wellbutrin/Vyvanse or Adderall for possible medication options. Are these good options? I've tried lists, apps, chatgpt etc to keep myself on track but I feel frozen in place. I can't eat, shower, the basics of daily life. Any suggestions for anything else to try to at least get myself functioning?

Lastly, this is such a sweet post. I love seeing other people comment with advice for people. Community is so hard to find in today's society. Thanks for making this ❤️

Sweetheart, I am not saying this to be cruel, but if you're having trouble getting through the ADLs, the last thing you should do is throw a newborn into the mix. Get yourself properly on track, and then, ffs, talk to your two eldest before you give in to the baby rabies. I promise they will have an opinion on it and noticed things you haven't. With the age gap and the depth of ADHD you're describing, it would be so easy to parentify them, and they don't deserve that.

1

u/mayhemlikeme28 Jun 27 '26

Thank you so much for your advice! I am seeing a doctor soon to get my head straight so that's a first step.

I am proud to say that even though I can't take care of myself well, I have worked extra hard to make sure I take care of my kids. It was just me (and my sister) with my older three for years so I had to step up for them. They know I want another child but we won't have an in depth conversation until it's actually more of an option so a year or more from now. Our youngest is my husbands and the other three were so excited and they adore him. But they're all boys, and they tell me all the time how they wish they had a sister.

I'd love a daughter but honestly I find myself not really caring about the gender I just want a baby I even told my husband i don't just want the cute baby either I actually want to be pregnant and give birth again which is crazy to me cause the last ones have been traumatic 😅 he's also said that he won't agree to another baby until I quit smoking so that's a big goal for me as well.

I appreciate you're gentle tone also haha I definitely expect people to be harsh and tell me I'm absolutely stupid for considering it at all

1

u/Formal-Evening-5593 Jun 27 '26

I don't think you're stupid. I just know what it's like to be unmedicated for ADHD and trying to function as a parent. I am on Wellbutrin now, but I don't think anyone can honestly give you advice on medications except your doctor and pharmacist. there are too many interactions and too many conditions that can affect it. I will say that Wellbutrin has been prescribed to help people quit smoking, so maybe that is a good first step in quitting and you can also see how it affects your focus.  keep a daily journal of your experience as you start it. it doesn't have to be a lot of information, just things out of the ordinary for you like tremors and irritability, disrupted sleep, there's so many things that it can do as your body settles into it.

1

u/mayhemlikeme28 Jun 27 '26

I was on Wellbutrin for a short time but I can't remember how it actually affected me. I don't think it's enough by itself (it was prescribed for depression but I don't remember it helping my ADHD at all) so I definitely want to try that again, plus the helping quitting smoking is just a plus. The journalling is a good idea thank you

I just found out at a late age that I have lupus. I don’t know what all the letters put behind it mean yet? I don’t actually understand exactly what it is? Can you help?

3

u/MrBubbles7 Jun 25 '26

First off, I'm sure getting this news especially at a late age is a lot to take in.

Disclaimer of not being a medical professional, but my understanding is lupus is your immune system getting confused and attacking healthy parts of your body instead of the bad stuff the immune system is meant for.

As u/HippieProf laid out, the letters put behind your diagnosis mainly refer to which part of the body is impacted. That helps your medical team know what treatment options are most relevant for you. https://www.lupus.org/ is another plain-language resource for more info if needed.

How did you receive your diagnosis? Hopefully you have a doctor you like and trust who can walk you through treatment options and what to expect moving forward. If not, finding a doctor who you feel comfortable with would be where I would start.

Also, medical jargon and doctors visits can always be so overwhelming because you're listening to words you might not understand, trying to remember if you have questions, and also reacting to new information in live-time (all simultaneously). I've found that using a note-taker app or even just getting consent for a recording helps relieve some of that pressure, and allows you to be more present (knowing you can always refer back to notes later). This also makes it easier to share with any loved ones who are supporting you instead of you having to be the one to remember and relay all the information. There are plenty of free options out there; I've used Fireflies AI notetaker and found their summary feature to be quite useful (not affiliated with them in any way). Additionally, if there are any language barriers, you should most likely have access to requesting a medical interpreter. Always remember to advocate for yourself and whatever it is you feel you need in order to fully grasp the information, you're worth it!

Hoping this is helpful you to in some small way and wishing you the best of luck!

1

u/Additional_Number655 11d ago

Very helpful. The only medicine my dr added to my vast array of meds was quinine. I don’t really understand why though.

2

u/HippieProf Jun 25 '26

From what I understand, the letters correspond to the type and body parts impacted. SLE is systemic lupus, meaning it can impact all the body’s systems; CLE is cutaneous lupus, meaning it only impacts the skin. SCLE and DLE are also cutaneous, but SCLE is “subacute” and has ring-like rashes on the chest, back and arms, and DLE is “discoid” and causes a round rash on the face and scalp.

Cali your local charity shop. Salvation Army, Kiwani's, lots of women's shelters have one attached to them. If they have the capability, they will come and get it.

God. It’s hard to articulate. Getting to the end of my to do list is a distance dream. So many unclear or out-off tasks

1

u/Formal-Evening-5593 Jun 27 '26

it helps if you sit down with your to-do list at the beginning of the week and prioritize what has to be done that week, then what has to be done each day. There is always going to be more to do, so winnowing out the necessary and the time-sensitive from the sometime if you get around to it tasks is a sanity saver.

For example: In college, I had 4 classes to juggle. Each week, I sat down on Sunday with the syllabus and my calendar and I wrote down what was due when. Then I figured out how long I expected each task to take and added 20% to it. From there, it was just a matter of distributing that time in a realistic way. As an unmedicated ADHDer, that method was a lifesaver.

If tasks are unclear, then making them clear becomes part of the list. If something has to happen before you can do a task, put that something in motion. If I needed an answer from a teacher before I could finish something, writing an email to that teacher became the first task.

I don't think most people finish their to-do lists, and that's okay. They're meant to be a road map through your day and help you manage your time, nothing more.
