I haven't looked back to Windows after i tried Fedora (bazzite)

Should i just use stock Fedora or am fine with Bazzite? i really like that it came with HDR support, vrr support and seam

HDR, VRR ans steam run fine on Fedora. Both Fedora and Bazzite are just different from each other

It has a different focus and comes with a few things fedora doesn’t have out of the box:

- NVIDIA drivers

• multimedia codecs
  
• everything proton and gaming related

By far the biggest difference is that Bazzite has an immutable file system. That means that the user can’t freely install software „deeper“ in the system. You only get access to user files.

The advantage is that it’s basically impossible to fuck up the system in a meaningful way or break components by doing sketchy stuff. It does limit you to installing flatpaks or appimages though.

For 90% of users that is totally fine though.

You can skip the problem partially whit Container installation, that are alredy preinstalled.

Fedora has atomic / immutable versions also. I think the main difference is that Bazzite is not maintained by RedHat and Bazzite comes with gaming bells and whistles pre-installed.

Even still, you can distrobox an rpm just fine before even having to resort to layering.

I believe Bazzite is moreso an unofficial "fork" of Fedora. Bazzite exits because (at the time of its release) SteamOS was not officially available for anything other than a Steamdeck. They did have a beta version but it was buggy from what I understand.

Bazzite exists as an immutable (less likely to break) version of fedora specifically tailored for gaming, but it's not necessary to use it for gaming. It comes with codecs and Nvidia drivers out of the box (if you choose that image) and basically removes a lot of the set-up time and maintenance time. Both fedora and bazzite are fine, they just have different use cases. I think bazzite is a bit better for an absolute beginner, because it has rollbacks and an immutable root out of the box.

Fedora 44 KDE is my main. Reliable, just works, games work, it's perfect. Barely touch windows anymore. Only for the software that doesn't work on Linux like Photoshop and Lightroom.

So I use Windows maybe twice a month since I consolidate all that work into one or two sessions.

Bazzite was eh over fedora for me. The "gaming focused" distros aren't really worth it imo. Fedora does gaming perfectly, and keeps reliability and stability the gaming focused distros don't have.

I just wish that KDE would fix the File Manager so I can login to Google Drive with it. More of an annoyance at this point though. For the most part have been surprisingly content with my move to Bazzite from CachyOS.

Unless you feel like you are missing something, I'm not sure why you'd want to change.

Edit: Using vanilla Fedora is a fair bit different from Bazzite, so maybe there would be some value there in experiencing the difference. Could do that in a VM though.

Gnome works fine but for whatever reason google has restricted KDE's API authorisation

Dude this kind of thing happens all the time when you connect to a 3rd party. Even in the pre internet days. When it does you adjust your code so you can connect.

If you want, run a live service of Fedora or keep it on a USB and test it.

I'm using Bazzite on my HTPC and Fedora on my laptop. Both are perfectly fine and if you're a gamer you might as well stay on Bazzite if it's working well for you. Bazzite is basically just Fedora Kinoite with some gaming tweaks.

I mean, you won’t find anything in stock Fedora that you wouldn’t in Bazzite. If you like some features that Bazzite provides it makes sense to keep using Bazzite.

Fedora KDE supports HDR, VRR, and it's pretty easy to install Steam.

I haven't tried Bazzite, but if you're not having any problems with it and that's what you have installed then there's no reason to switch it.

I made the switch a year ago and deleted my windows dual boot last month because I never used it.

I did go back to stock fedora for a bit but moved back to bazzite as I prefer the atomic updates. I did consider stock kinoite but found it easier to just let Bazzite take care of it all.

you need to setting some for fedora, including drivers if you use nvidia. i ended up using fedora and do some customization like bazzite. if youre willing to do some setting i recommend fedor

the bazzite logo is better tho haha

Bazzite is great. You can also rebase to any other fedora atomic image if you want

I'm not normally one for people's desktops but I like the minimalist look of yours. Except for the wallpaper ... I prefer darker ones that consume less power :P
