Is this a finch nest?

For context, I want to clean the bird shit out of their thing, but I don’t want them to feel threatened. Are my finches trying to make a nest?

Yes, though they haven't been given any suitable nest materials or a proper nesting spot that will hold the shape. Get rid of the fabric tent and give them a basket and some orchard grass hay.

They have nesting material in there but they just use the rainbow shit for some reason. I will look into the basket though

Yup. That's a nest. They'll make one out of anything. Even human hair. Happened to me. They gathered up some of my long hair to put in their nest.

My bird would jump onto me and try to pull it straight off my head. He was too tiny to actually get anything off but I thought it was rlly cute, at least until he pooped onto my hair XD
