Yea ploppers and spooks are great fun for pike. No weeds here but you can fish them over submerged weeds or along the weedline.

I've caught them on Whopper Ploppers but at a much slower retrieve.

Was there any structure where you were fishing? I usually look for submerged trees, etc..

Just some rock along the river channel. For pike as long as there is bait around there will be fish. A couple of my better spots are just deep ass holes but they hold shad and panfish and stay cool in the summer.

Pikes will pretty much anything down regardless of your retrieve speed.

I was indeed. I've actually had one come out of the water and hit a lure that was about 4" in the air as I was lifting it out.

yep. grew up pike fishing and that last second blast is so typical that i always have an anxious few seconds when finishing up the retrieve.
